Hello guys,
I read on a Italian forum that the Bravo monitoring system is not trustworthy and credible,is it true? What do you think about it??I hoped I will have Bravo System at Milan, but now I start being skeptical...a person wrotw that the "old metod"with a tube is the most trustworthy!!He talked about the ph- impedenziometer monitoring with the tube for 24 hours...my doctor also talked me about this exam...it can discern well acid from biliar or alkaline refluxs...

What do you think about that?

I think Bravo works very well, as long as the capsule is attached properly. Insist on a doctor, not just a nurse or technician. You can read the little meter that reads the pH yourself. It clips on your belt or waistband.

Just in case the thing detaches early, as mine did, keep your own record of acid, also the time and what you eat and drink, if you are standing or sitting or lying down.

I have a terrible gag reflex and would not have tolerated a 24-hour tube in my throat. I have trouble just gargling mouthwash. When I had my surgery I woke up with a tube and had to try hard not to swallow or I immediately was gagging.

I did fine with mine. I agree with alice, make sure a doctor positions it a nurse isn't trained enough to do it right.

A lot of people have the Bravo test. I had the wired monitor because the GI docs I went to, believe that the wired version is more reliable. I'm sure that in the right hands the Bravo works just fine.

Just keep the monitor on you or close by when you can't wear it.
My doctor does nothing but the bravo. He never does the wire.

Candybia,
I'm sure the Bravo will work just fine for you. It's great that they have that option for people who can't tolerate the other procedure.

Actually the 24 hour PH monitor isn't a tube. It's a small wire that goes through your nose and down your throat. It's suspended above your stomach, to measure how much acid escapes and migrates up the esophagus. It's taped to your nose/face so it doesn't move.

It's not fun to wear it around, but I didn't mind it that much. I was glad to get rid of it the next morning, but I wouldn't think twice about getting the test again.

Good luck with the test!
