So today I called my GI who told me to have absolutely the ph impedence test because the Bravo monitoring is not useful for my specific case, because PPI are almost ineffective for me!
I will pay only a cheap ticket and I will have soon,I hope!
I'm very afraid and agitated about this exam.
Anyone did have it?Any experiences?
I MUST have this test once and for all finally!
He told me the wire is not so bad and annoying...and that the endoscopy is much worse!

Please any councils or experiences!!!

Sorry if I'm so boring and"pathetic"but I'm really scared a lot!!! sad

Tomorrow I am scheduled for a scope, bravo, and the impedance test.     I am a little nervous about these tests also.

I have already had 2 scopes and the TIF surgery so I am not so nervous about the scope, but the bravo and the wire test.

I will let you know how I make out.

When is your test scheduled.     Are you having a scope done.     Do the sedate you for the scope?      My scope is with sedation.

Candybia,
I had the test twice, and it is a small wire. Yes, it's annoying, but it's only a day and then it's done and over. Really, you are worrying for nothing. Once it is put in place it's taped to keep it from slipping, and you're on your way. I always took the day off, as I'm a teacher, and the kids would be very distracted. Most likely you'll want to stay close to home while you're being tested. You'll do everything you'd normally do, and eat normally as well. Then you'll sleep with it on. There's a little box that is attached--you wear it over your shoulder with a strap. You push a button when you eat, another when you lay down, etc.

This test is not a big deal, so there's no point in getting yourself worked up about it. Relax, and breathe. The only real challenge is getting it placed...once it's there, you will just have a little annoying sensation when you swallow, but it won't bother your eating and drinking at all.

Good luck with the test.
Relax. You'll do just fine!

Candybia, the test may be irritating (the wire outside the nose bothers me), but other than that, it's really no big deal. Insertion is a lot easier if you relax and follow directions...do not tip your head backwards; it affects the "openess" of your throat. Keep your chin down, once you feel the wire at the back of your throat and when they tell you to take sips of water, take long sips and then a continuous swallow, it will be down in no time. I've lost count of the number of times I've had this, but it delivers significant information about what may be going on in your esophagus.

Your scope should be done with some sedation, I would not care to do it without.

good luck,
Janice

Hi!
I'm still waiting to have the impedence test...my GI told me he called the hospital to have the test, but they don't answer...this long waiting is terrible,it's killing me...and my anxiety is increasing more and more..I feel worse,I have stomach and belly aches and nausea..I also feel heavy and full when I eat(I eat very little),no appetite.
I'm really very worried,pffff!!!
I hope my GI will call me as soon as possible to have this test, and I hope I will be able to have it!!!It scares me so much....

(((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))
Hang in there. You're working yourself up into a tizzy.
Slow down, take a slow deep breath, and relax.
Find something to take the worry off your mind.

Candybia,
Listen to Joy...she has good advice for you. You need to keep busy and think of other things, because you're making this even harder than it has to be. It's hard to wait, I'm sure, when you aren't comfortable and having trouble eating. I totally understand. However, you can't rush things, so it's only making things worse.

Bottom line, you'll do just fine with the procedure. Try to keep a positive outlook and hang in there! We're all rooting for you and hoping for a great outcome for you. We're happy to answer your questions and support you through this. Try to relax and think of other things. It'll make the time pass more quickly. We've all been there and know what it feels like.

Have a great week and let us know how things go.
Take care,
Denise

It's impossible to live serenely without any anxiety! cry
I'm almost anxious and depressed all the time,I'm living in lament and dissatisfaction all the time!
Today I went to the seaside with my boyfriend, but it didn't help me neither at all!I was ill all the time, hole at the stomach, feeling of emty stomach,no appetite, agitation, big sighs and breaths, want to cry and feeling of despair!
It' s impossible living in this way!
I called again my GI,he told me he hasn't any news about the impedence test and told me to call him next next Wednesday...I have been calling him for about a week and he's continiuing to postpone and I' more and more anxious and agitated, and I stay with my symtoms... cry may be this anxiety is causing or increasing my symtoms?

Most likely. Stress can cause more acid in your stomach.
Ask your doctor for something for your nerves. Maybe you need something else to help your relaxation.

Can you take diazepam? It's good for nerves. It helps me when I have a nervous issue with a medical procedure.

I am sorry to hear you are having such a rough time but may I suggest that you look at our forum on Depression and perhaps post to the members in that forum re your Depression. We also have an Anxiety Forum that you may find helpful.

I am wondering if you have a therapist or a Psychiatrist to help you with your Depression and Anxiety.

There are many Antidepressants and I have tried many over the past 28 years and have found some that worked wonders and others that did not. Remember that antidepressants can stop working and you may need to be on a new medication.

I do believe that anxiety can feed your GI problems.

Candybia I don't know anything about this test but you need to take deep breaths. Sit in a calm room and breath in and out S L O W L Y. Leave a little pause at the end of a breath out so that you empty all air from your lungs then breath in very deeply. Focus on your breathing only think of nothing else. Put some soothing music on (May I suggest Vanessa Mae). Do this for at least 5 minutes, 10 would be better. Do it every day or even every time you feel the anxiety rising. You are getting yourself so wound up over this. Everything is going to be ok. You are not going to die, you are not going to be in pain, you are going to be fine. Getting so wound up like this will definately be making your GERD so much worse.

I've had the wired PH study one a few times and every time it was 1 small wire. Now that being said, I also had it placed after they did a manometry to be sure where to place the probe and also check the swallowing muscles. Maybe that is why you have heard it's 2 wires?

Take care,
Bill
