I'm new to this forum. I was diagnosed with GERD about 5 months ago and took Kapidex (dexilent) for about 4 months.  I stopped taking the medicine 27 days ago and started going with ACV with water and digestive enzymes. I don't feel heartburn anymore and don't feel like anything comes up when I burp. I sleep fine and don't wake up with chest tightness anymore. The only symptom I've been dealing with lately is that I have trouble swallowing occasionally. I had a scope done 4 months ago and like everyone that has this condition, I have anxiety at times for this advancing to Barrett's and cancer.
My question is for those that have found the natural path of low-carb and ACV useful, when do you go get another scope or check to make sure there's still not damage happening? I hear that there's a silent reflux and it doesn't show signs of heartburn. If that's the case, how would I ever know when this is getting worse... I know that a lot of my fear is irrational at this point, but I just don't have a plan in place as to preventing this from developing. I'm curious to those that have been successful staying off the medicine, when did you get checked out again and what were the results?

hey i am the king of irrational. glad the otc remedies worked for you, never had any luck with them. but the fewer prescriptions the better. it was the sleeping meds that caused all of this for me. you may want a scope for piece of mind. if you need 1 ppi a day and are ok on that take it and run. i take multiple ppis and h2 blockers and probe still shows 30 episodes of acid, not good for lpr sufferers. get another scope and post again. i am prepping for surgery but have had every test known to man and you can email me anytime

Medicine then surgery was all I could do.

Ask your GI for a second scope to make sure everything's good.

Good Morning,

I did not stop my medication but did try to drink the ACV and yes I ordered the one that is most recommended but it gagged me so I continue with the PPI once daily. However I do very well on one daily dose of Prilosec RX.

I agree that you should get your scope done when your Dr. feels it would be time after stopping the medication.
