I have had burning pain from above my navel to the upper abdomen, under tthe beastbone for nearly a month.  The pain had finally gotten so bad that I went to the doc yesterday.  She checked lipase and amylase for pancreatitis, results today are negative.

I have an appt with a gastro doc next Tues.  I have researched everything trying to get an idea what could be the problem.

The only symptom of GERD that I have is the burning pain.  Can a person have GERD with only that symptom?

Ask for a scan to check your gallbladder. Those are the symptoms I had and after finally getting acute pancreatitis they scanned my gallbladder and it was full of sand plus had two big stones in it. I have since had it out and the burning pain has gone. I still get a bit of indigestion at times but nothing compared to the pain and vomiting my gallbladder was causing.

It could be GERD. Gerd is weird it causes all sorts of odd symptoms.

Good luck in finding a solution with your GI.

I think the digestive system is such a complicated thing it's no wonder it's the first port for problems. I've had that awful pressure and full feeling up against the top of my stomach today. It's so annoying! Very tempted to get out the PPI's again.

Celtic Lady,

If you're bothered by frequent heartburn or other signs and symptoms, your doctor may be able to diagnose GERD with that information alone.

Signs and symptoms of GERD include acid reflux and heartburn. Both are common digestive conditions that most people experience from time to time. When these signs and symptoms occur more than twice each week or interfere with your daily life, doctors term this GERD.

I was diagnosised from severe heartburn as I was having it daily and my Dr. recommended OTC Mylanta. However I then developed acid reflux and was started on Prilosec which has served me well.

Good luck with your GI apppointment.

You already had your hiatal hernia surgery, I assume it was Nissen fundoplication. Don't worry, it could be something as simple as gastritis, caused by the H.Pylori bacteria. There is a simple breath test that can determine the infection. A round or of antibiotics and you're good as new! But don't wait for too long or you get ulcer.

Had my upper endo today.  Was told that no h pylori, ulcers, or cancer.  No GERD but there is mild erythema in the whole stomach.  He doesn't know what is causing this but said it could be an overproduction of bile.  He did take a biopsy.  I have researched erythema and found this is an inflamation and my stomach definitely feels inflamed.  I was still groggy when he was talking to me and I forgot to ask if stress could cause this.  I have been under extreme stress for 4 years and I believe my body is finally saying enough is enough.

I had a sense from my visit yesterday and talking to the doc today that he thinks this is in "my head" well no it is in my stomach.  I never understand why a doctor would think that someone would want to hurt.

I think I am going to start researching a diet for an inflammed stomach.  I really don't want to take any more meds.  I currently take meds for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and low thyroid.  In addition to a b12 shot monthly for pernicious anemia.  I need to lose weight so maybe this will be the incentitive that I need to lose the weight.
