I was taking tramadol extended release, got serotonin symdrome when Rx'd Flexeril along with it.  Both meds were stopped and I was put on Darvocet-N.  That made me vomit - or rather I heaved 4 or 5 times, a few drops of blood came up.  Can't vomit after Nissen!

So now I'm having a sore throat every morning, and I don't think it's a virus.

I really don't want to have endo ever again.  I gag uncontrollably, even with pain meds, which mostly all make me throw up.  I'm a bit upset about this.  My fundoplication was working well!

I'm back on tramadol instant release, but have nothing to help me sleep.  Diazepam (1 mg) seems to help with the back spasms (bad wreck and arthritis).  It's a great muscle relaxant, but I hope I won't get resistant and have to take more.

Ouch! I hope you didn't tear something. Maybe it was just your throat being irritated?

Alcie-
Probably gonna be sore a few days, but probably will be fine as long as it's been since the surgery. In the last year I have had 1 12 plus hours of dry heaves, and 2 sessions let's say in the last month of very severe dry heaves over 12 to 24 hour periods twice and All is well. Very sore everytime, but intact. Give it a week or so and see how it feels.

Take care,
Bill

Alcie,
It's always easy for us to over-react to anything that seems to indicate our wrap is a failure. Listen to Bill. He's got lots of great experience, and has been around the block with his wrap.
Relax, and don't assume the worst. Think lots of positive thoughts!
Good luck with the pain. I know it's hard to deal with chronic pain. I hope it gets better soon.

Thanks guys.  It's scarey!  My concern this morning is now I am burping and refluxing a little.  I haven't done this is 9 months.  I'm pretty sure (maybe it's just hysteria) something happened to the wrap.  I've needed Nexium the last 2 days.

I'll put in a call the my gastro, maybe also to the surgeon.  For reassurance.

Sorry you are having problems.    Maybe it is from worrying about it causing you to reflux.

Let us know how you are.

Hi Alcie,
Your wrap is a part of your stomach, and if it has been injured, it might react differently until it heals. There could be a bit of swelling that might make it act differently for a while, until it has to heal. Don't jump to the conclusion that it's forever. Take the Nexium, and try not to project into the future. Most likely things will settle down and you'll be back to normal.
Feel better!

Hi mitsie and Denise. Thanks for the reassurance. I'm taking the Nexium for now, still waking up with sore throat, burping more than I used to post fundo (almost none) and small reflux going on. Hubby looked in my throat and said it's definitely red on both sides. Well, it's only about 3 days, so maybe it'll calm down.
I tried to get hold of GI, but I called too late.

Alcie,

I have been dry heaving a lot in the last month. I get nauseated and it happens so quickly that I can't prevent it. I haven't had any blood thankfully but my throat is very sore after it happens and I do have a sore throat the next day. I have to take my stomach meds (prescription) the day after this happens as my stomach seems to have indigestion and I normally don't have it. I am lucky that I am able to burp after my full wrap but I too don't "throw up" from the stomach. I only get saliva in large amounts that come up.

Hopefully everything will be ok for you. Good luck and keep us posted on what your Doctor says.

For the moment I'm getting antibiotic in case the sore throat is something I picked up from the grandsons who were sick bafire my incident. But I'm still burping 100 times more than before and refluxing even on an empty stomach.

Next step will be a barium swallow. It'll show in motion if anything's coming up and if there is a new hernia. I do expect to see smething. I don't believe I just caught a bug.

Depressing.

I know how you feel, Alcie. It's the last thing we want to worry about. Let's hope that everything is intact and you will recover and be just like new.

I had a barium swallow because of the bile reflux I was experiencing, and it came back with pretty normal results--no hiatus hernia, wrap intact with appearance consistent with a Nissen. The only quirky thing was that I was retaining some barium in my esophagus, and my stomach was refluxing air into the esophagus and sending the barium up and down the esophagus. Strange indeed.

I do still get some bile reflux, and my asthma doc is determined to get things under control so my hoarseness recovers. He has no respect for GI doc, so pretty much handles things himself.

Hope you get a good report after your barium swallow. Hang in there and try not to worry.

Hope things are going better today, Alcie. Try not to worry, and give yourself time to heal.
Thinking of you.
