Hi all. I'm new to the site and have read many of your postings. I had the esophyx procedure last week Thursday. Since then I have been experiencing severe cramps. After eating, sitting/standing, moving, or breathing I feel as if someone had kicked me in the stomach! One side effect I frequently experience is burning - similar to heartburn, which many of the posts said could be from the muscles still being raw.

However, I am also concerned because I still have reflux symptoms. For about an hour or so after eating I feel like I have fluid stuck in the back of my throat but is not due to post nasal drip. It also happens when I lie down. It's annoying because the instructions say I cannot cough -which I sometimes do anyway - and drinking or clearing my throat does not help. I'm worried the surgery didn't go well, but I know it is still early to tell.

Has anyone else experienced reflux after surgery and how long did it take to stop? Also, I read some people have to continue the medication after surgery, why? Isn't the surgery suppose to cure the reflux?

During the healing process everything's swollen and out of wack. It would be best if you keep taking your medicine until the healing is finished.

For some people the surgery just helps them cut down on the medicine needed.

I've heard from others with the TIF surgery, that it takes up to 13 weeks to feel better from the spasms and burning.

I had my Tif done one May 10 and still suffer from reflux.  I also had it afer the procedure.  I am still on all my meds.  My dr. says after the surgery there shouldn't be anymore reflux.  They usually wean you off the meds and you not supose to need them.  Take care it gets better with time.

I had the Esophyx Tiff surgery in Feb. 2010.  I had burping and reflux for several weeks after.  After week 12 or 13 I was great.  I love not having to take Nexium anymore.  I eat whatever now.  Occasionally I have to take a little mylanta.  I have been very pleased with this surgery although it was a lot tougher than expected.

Thanks!  Everyone's comments are really appreciated.  The surgery knocked me on my butt for about a week, but I seem to be feeling a little better each day.  Look forward to completely healing so I can eat!   Cathy  turn
