Hi.

Fantastic info in this forum. I was diagnosed with a small hiatus hernia two years ago; by scope. Never had any serious symptoms. Over the past couple of months I have now developed chest pain (on the sternum) and some of the other symptoms (throat sore, lump in throat) of GERD. Heart was checked, ok. I have completely changed my diet, no smoking, drinking, coffee, tea, tomatoes, etc. I don't eat for 4 hours before going to bed (which I lifted 8inches).

For 4 weeks now I have been on 40mg of Nexiam. My chest pain has not improved. From all the info I can find on the web, the indication is that the heartburn chest pain should be intermittent, ie after meals or when the reflux occurs. However my pain / discomfort is always present, it only varies in levels of severity. Can anyone comment??

Welcome,
What's probably happening is your LES is weak and acid is flowing into your esophagus. The pain varies by how much is getting in there.
You eat = more acid
Not eating = less acid (but it's still there because acid is always in your stomach)

Which tests have you had done?
Joy

Problems too numerous to name. :)
