Hi,

I've been suffering with GERD for the past few months. It seems to come and go which is very inconvenient as I play a lot of sport and it always seems to annoy me when we have an important game.

I've been to my GP three times now and he has progressed me from weaker blockers which seemed to cause the problem to disappear initially but this week, after a week of feeling as well as I ever have, the sore throat and sick sotmach came back with a bang.

On Tuesday he prescribed me with a double dose of the strongest blockers, amoxcillin and some other medication to try and eradicate the issue within a week. If that doesn't work he wants me to have a gastroepanectamy (I have no idea how to spell this).

I've tried to manage my diet and cut back on alcohol a bit but it just seems to catch me unawares every few weeks and is always particularly bad in the morning.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?

I feel your pain. I will feel good for a while, maybe a week and think I am getting better(on otc zegerid of course) and even on the medicine it will still creep up on me and pretty much make me miserable. I think it is when I let my guard down and start to feel better and I start to eat like I use to is when I get sick again.
I too get the nausea in the morning and sometimes it stays all day and sometimes it will subside but it is just frustrating trying to live day to day or even minute to minute when you aren't sure how you are going to feel. You are not alone.

Thanks.

It's getting very annoying and every time it flares up I manage to convince myself that it could be something much worse.

I'm on the new medication two days now and don't seem any better. Fingers crossed it will go well over the weekend.

I had an ultrasound and that came out fine and, like you I am starting to get anxiety about this and am now worrying about stomach cancer....can you say "hypochondriac"? Can't help it though. It is hard to keep things in perspective when this goes on every day without much relief and you just think it must be something really bad.

Zegerid use to work for me but now not so much. What are your symptoms?

No I'm just a worrier.

I've a constant sore throat and gagging feeling from time to time. Sickly stomach in the morning as well.

Not overly worried about it now and, like you, I feel that it probably has flared up this week due to a couple of bbq burgers I risked last weekend as well as a Dominos Pizza last Monday.

Not the wisest move I ever made in truth. Nexium normally clears it up for a while but I have a feeling I will need surgery for it eventually.

If the ultrasound was ok then you're can probably stop you're worrying hopefully.

The best thing to do is to stop eating the spicy foods. Spicy food can really build up the acid in your stomach.

Please see your GI and get these tests done.
Barium swallow
EGD (endoscope)
Stomach emptying
Manometry
Ph test

They will tell him why the medicine is needing to be double and if the surgery will help you.

I've been avoiding spicy foods for the last few months and it's still doing no good.

I awoke very early this mornign with a sick stomach and a very sour taste in my mouth along with the usual sore throat.

I'm afraid that my medication may be bringing on a bad reaction so I'm goign back to my GP in the next hour just to calm myself more than anything else.

Good Morning,

Please do let us know how you make out at your Doctor's appointment.  Perhaps you would like to post in the Anxiety and Panic forum re your tendency to be a "worrier".  We have lots of "worriers" in that forum too that may be able to help you with this anxiety issue.

What's a "gastroepanectamy?" spellling must be way off. Maybe you can describe what the procedure is and we can help with the word.

Doctor sent me to hospital where they did bloods and everything was A-OK thankfully.

I've been told to stop taking the anti-biotics that were prescribed for me as they were wrecking my stomach and driving more acid up my throat.

Just Nexium from here in and already feeling a little better.

I guess we are victims of the "Worry World" and please don't call it hypochondriac call it health anxiety disorder it sounds better

smhair

I suffer from major anxiety to the point where i can barely function. I have been on over the counter prevacid and am finally starting to feel better. I go for my yearly next month and am going to ask for a referral to a GI. I cannot go on worrying like i have been over the stomach issues because its taking a burden on my family...
