so my surgeon said i could stop the 2 a day aciphex after surgery, but i thought id take them until my throat symptoms go away. also, for those of you with the throat clearing mine is constant, made worse by eating. im not even a week post fundo, and i know it takes a while but why so long. is the mucous actually reflux or is it the throats own mucous. im worried its worse after eating. man the whole reason for the surgery was my burned larynx and throat clearing/pain. starting to panic it wont work. did anyone else stay on ppis until you healed, then stop. I also still have water brash which i had bad before surgery i wonder if these are all bad signs..i would think that at the least my water brash would be better. very worried. i thought of canceling the surgery the day before..but went ahead..hope i did the right thing

Give it time, joe.
Everyone here has gone through the same fears and worries you're going through. In six weeks time you're going to look back and say, "why was I worried so?"
Hang in there.

My doctor gave me aciphex to try but I am afraid of the side effects. How did it work for you?

it worked great at 1st. then it lost some effectiveness. what do you need it for. gerd, lpr. if you have regular gerd or esophghitis id try omeprazoale 1st, aciphex is expensive and i have got them free for 1 yr, but now that i have used it nothing else works. i never noticed side effects though i have bad anxiety and some say aciphex makes it worse. id check with your insurance..i know protonix has been out a while and is cheap. in my opinion the 2 drugs i mention are cheap and are more mild with side effects. also, are you going to take these short term..if not call the insurance company. hope this helps. also ask if you can try an h2 blocker 1st. really id have stopped the ppi soon, but once on it over time it seemed like i could not. if i could do it over id be very careful what/when i ate, exercised regularly and limited all drugs. if you need it then take it, but take the smallest, effective dose. please fire away if you have more questions..ive been ran through the mud

Hi Joe,
Impatient is putting it mildly! You just had the surgery! If you had irritation, that irritation will take some time to subside.

Your wrap is swollen, and it's very likely that your esophagus contains retained liquid after you eat/drink. Therefore, if you burp, it pops that liquid up into your mouth. That happened to me all the time after I had the surgery. I worried, but when it wasn't acidic, I relaxed about it. It's just whatever is in your esophagus getting blown back up into your mouth by gas releasing. People who can't burp don't have that experience.

Relax and let your recovery lead you. Don't stress and try to put your recovery on a time line. As Joy said, you'll look back on this anxiety, and wish you hadn't made yourself crazy with worry and anxiety. It's not worth it. You can't rush the process, Joe. It will happen when it happens. Stop stressing!

As far as the PPI's...I stayed on them during recovery. Some people don't. It won't hurt you to use something. As I said in an earlier post, during the early stages of healing it's possible that you could get a little reflux. Many do.

Stop worrying and relax!
Take care,
Denise

You aren't going to break your wrap by bending. They suture it pretty well. Now heavy lifting can make things go "pop". So no heavy lifting. Lets review......

Relax, no lifting over 5 lbs, relax, when eating chew chew chew, relax, get plenty of rest, relax, get plenty of rest, relax, stay hydrated, relax. Okay, I think that's about it.

Take care,
Bill

bill you crack me up. im not relaxing much have been on go for 2days. my pain is better but whether symptoms are better..not so far. i read you and ive caught self trying to lift. im not used to not lifting, painting, taking garbage out. so bill one more time for my ocd. trying to sit back from a straight sitting position 2x in hospital the day of the surgery should not have broke wrap. i caught myself both times..the pain told me to stop, but i was definitely trying to use that stomach to help

Joe-
Bending over isn't a problem, but if you grabbed a hold of anything over 5 pounds and lifted it that was a no no! No taking garbage out! No sit ups, no crunches! No power lifting! And as Brian in New Zealand found out No washing the car and lifting water buckets!
Yes bending over is puts way less pressure on the abs than lifting, just feels tight from swelling. And lying back will feel very sore because the control muscles are sore and swollen, but won't hurt the wrap.
You really need to stay at home and rest my friend. these first few weeks are very crucial to a good recovery. what kind of support network do you have to help with the daily chores and such? I and beginning to worry you are doing WAY to much this soon. You should be doing as little as humanly possible right now and letting your body heal.

Take care,
Bill

bill mostly im up walking due to anxiety. i bend to sit up and down and use toilet. back hurts if i sit long. im doing no lifting..a couple times i caught myself and stopped. no exercise. i did not to sit ups. just what i call 2 half sit ups when in hospital i tried to lay straight back from a sitting up..got part way came back up because it hurt. that is my worry. since then i have been so worried. i didnt even make it all the way but was laying back using all abs. no hands just thought id lay back. man i hope you are right.like i said i did not make it far they werent true sit ups, but it definitely was a strain..and yes it hurt. i bent once from standing automatically trying to pick something up. but that laying back definitely uses those control muscles..but as a veteran poster i trust you..if you think thats fine then im just going to spend my time walking. my wife is home telling me to sit still im just not used to this im very active. i dont even mean to bend or lay back like i did it just happened. im going to just spend my days in the lawn chair with the kids to get out. that may help i will try and occupy my time by watching others be active :) thanks so much for your help bill, i wont lift..will bend as needed and that laying back well after 2 tries im done with that

Sounds good. I am sure things are alright. I did the same thing you did a few time at the hospital and got reminded very quickly not to myself, so don't worry.

I'm off to bed,

Take care,
