Having read your posts I believe my husband may have GERD, he has been advised that he has IBS and i know he can't eat spicy foods, he has a slight reflux and having been examined by his doctor yesterday the only thing he could tell him was that his stomach is very tight.
Anyway, on the mornings after having intercourse my husband feels very sick.  He told the doctor about this but was advised that he never heard of it and that he was a worrier.  This I do know, but it doesn't sort the problem.
I was wondering if anyone else had heard of this and is it just as i think, that his blood sugar levels are at a low on the mornings after intercourse.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  I have never heard or seen this concern before in regards to GERD but perhaps another member will have some input for you.

If he is straining too hard in any way it can stir up the reflux. I can barely even work out anymore other than walking on the treadmill without getting sick from it.

Dear kerrbear,
I join Kitt in welcoming you to Healing Well!

To me it makes perfect sense that his reflux would be worse the next morning. Bedtime is always the worst for GERD sufferers, because gravity isn't able to keep the acid in the stomach where it belongs.

As Tinlou said, exercise of any kind can cause GERD flareups, and intercourse is definitely exercise--and it's generally done in a horizontal position--the worst for GERD.

Has he discussed this with a GI doctor? Has he had testing to see if his reflux has gotten worse?
If this continues, it seems to make perfect sense to see a GI doctor.
Good luck finding an answer!
Take care,

As a guy I've had this problem. This forum is usually conservative so I don't want to give any details. Just have him check with his GI doctor as people have mentioned. Upper endoscopy would confirm.
