This makes me so angry. about 9 months ago I went to my family physician because I was having troubles with a strange problem: I couldn't burp. On a semi-regular (twice a week - once a month) my stomach fills with gas and I am unable to expel it. It has gotten painful enough to put me in emerg. This also happens more frequently when I am physically active which sucks because I dance twice a week.
For the past month I have also been having horrible heartburn and ended up with puke in my mouth. I haven't changed any of my regular habits and my stress level is about the same. My gassy belly problem is at it's worst when my heartburn acts up. I am starting to think they are related and that I may have had GERD for the past year and not known it, and my doctor didn't think to make the connection. I am a healthy, active 17 year old and I've never really had health problems before.
Could this be true? And if so where do I go from here?
All advice is appreciated.

At this point, if I were you, I would ask to be referred to a GI doctor for testing.
Endoscopy, manometry, etc can answer questions about what is going on inside you.
In the meantime try avoiding gas causing foods, acidic foods, junk foods/sugary foods (and soda!), and over eating if you can since those things mayl make the problem worse - and get yourself some Gas-x.
I'm so sorry you're having such a tough time.
The best thing you can do though is to be your own best advocate!
Don't take a brush off of your concerns, push for a referral and get yourself some answers.
Hang in there...

I agree with Cat. Also avoid complex carbohydrates, all the artificial sweeteners, soluble fiber.

Other things that can cause gas and bloating are celiac, appendix and gallblader.

You can also try adding probiotics and yogurt twice a day.

I'll definitely try the yogurt and maybe start a food log? The only thing is I tried to make connections between which foods affect me' and it's totally random. One day I can eat a pound of mcdonalds and be fine and the next day I'll have a fry and be in pain for hours.
Also can GERD cause a gassy stomach? I read it somewhere in this forum and have been mostly going off of that.
Thanks for your help.
