Hello everyone...

I read many topics ago that someone on this site had Lupus?  I am scheduled for a Laparoscopic Floppy Nissen Fundoplication on February 3rd, 2011.  I am so glad that I stumbled onto this site.  I have learned so many tips and now understand what to expect from the surgery itself that it has really put my mind at ease on that subject... BUT... I am a 43 year old female with Lupus, and I finally having the surgery under the advice of 3 GIs and a Surgeron... because I have Barretts, dx in 2005 at age 37.  My LES is not working well... 6% pressure.. on a good day:)  And my demeester score was 27.3 on meds... not high, but my GI wanted to see if  I was still having problems while taking my meds...

I have resisted the surgery, mainly because I am a little nervous on what to expect with my Lupus.  I currently have it well controlled.  My Rheumy.. doesn't think it should be a problem...but, sometimes Drs. don't give complete reassurance...  The other issue is I currently take 17+ pills daily...  One of the nice things about having a weak LES and "good motility"  I normally swallowed this handful 'literally'  all at once before bedtime and I was done... now from the stories I reading I am  a little worried about this being a really long drawn out nightly event... I have also seen some good suggestions for taking medications, and I thank everyone for that.. I am really going to have to sit down with my dr... and figure out which ones I can crush and which ones will need to be rewritten in liquid form... what a nightmare;)  So.... anway if anyone with even a chronic autoimmune disease could let me know their stories on how the surgery and more importantly how the recovery affected them, I would be grateful:)

Thank you for letting me rattle on...

PD,
You can ask your pharmacist about the pills. They would know more anyway than the doctor since pills is all they do.
Soon you will join our "wrapped club". If you have any questions about the surgery or recovery we're here for you. We can even give you tips on preparing for it.
