I am having some major concerns about my health, and I just don't know what it is.

I had some serious bloating and indigestion at the end of August. I went to the doctor because I had no appetite, and it felt like my stomach and chest was on fire.

I saw a doc, and he said, could be a minor ulcer or GERD. He did a quick blood test for H. Pylori, and it came back negative. He gave me prilosec for about one month. Symptoms disappeared.

The come back here and there, slightly. I managed them with Zantac.

Now I have other issues.

My problem is, I have frequent, but brief bouts of nausea, and just gnawing stomach pain when I am getting hungry or my stomach is empty. Most people, their stomachs growl when they are hungry. Mine growls, and starts to ache. However, a lot of the times when I eat, that gnawing pain goes away. Then, when I get hungry again, the aching comes back. I don't have a lot of heartburn, but my nostrils feel like they are burning (a lot) when I am breathing at times. No regurgitation, not much for burning esophagus.

What concerns me most is the fatigue and weakness I am suffering from as well. I just have no energy. Then again it may be the stress and anxiety I am having over all this.

I just don't know if it is GERD or gastritis, or something else entirely. My father suffers from GERD, hiatal hernia.

As for me, I feel like I have symptoms of gastritis, but the H. Pylori test came back negative (maybe it is wrong). I am 27 years old.

I haven't been taking a lot of medication for GERD. A zantac here and there, but I am whole-heartedly trying to avoid going through the PPIs. I do not want to become dependent on those pills. But then again, I want to have some quality of life. I was taking generic omperazole for about 5 or 6 days and that made me feel lousy. lots of heartburn and stomach pain. i stopped taking those pills and i started to feel better. however, i have taken a coarse of Zergerid OTC (which is the same drug, more or less) and that seemed to help in the past.

i don't get it.

more tests for H. Pylori? i cannot afford a endoscopy and my new insurance doesn't kick in until Jan. 2011 and they may not cover that procedure until 6months after i start.

GERD symptoms? gnawing stomach settled when eating. burning nostrils. frequent nausea. or something else?

I get the same exact symptoms as you, the burning, gnawing gpain and nausea but I will get lack of appetite as well but I know what you mean about the "hungry" feeling. I have gone to my doctor and even the ER only to be told it is gastritis with silent reflux. It does tend to make you feel weak and sometimes it even feels like a panic attack, no idea why but it does. GERD symptoms can come in many different ways, I had no idea I even had it until the doctor told me my sinus issues was from the GERD. The zegerid also works well for me have been told it is ok to keep taking it. Maybe you should try to stay on it and see if it helps even though I know you don't like taking meds all the time (i don't either}it is still much better than feeling lousy everyday!! Good Luck!

May I suggest you see a Gastroenterologist: A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.

I suspect you need further testing to get to the root of your symptoms.

Kitt. I am sure he knows he should see a Gastroenterologist but he can't afford it at the moment. Try to give some advice that might help him now if you can. And I love how you only pipe in AFTER someone else tries to help.

I would get the same symptoms except the burning nose but everyone reacts differently. Have you tried regular Prilosec? For some reason the name brand stuff worked better for me than the generic. Most of the meds take a few days to get the whole effect. You didn't mention that you changed your diet. Have you tried that? If you do a search you can get a great list of do's and dont's. Small frequent meals might help with the gnawing.

From what you said I would guess gerd. Gastritis is when the stomach is inflamed and usually eating makes the symptoms worse. I know with me, my gerd symptoms are worse on an empty stomach because it's just acid sitting in there. The best thing you can do is to keep a food journal with trial and error and see if you notice anything that makes your symptoms better or worse.

It sounds like gastritis and GERD to me. I do believe it is possible to have both because I know that I do. Just trying to keep the acid under control will likely help relieve your symptoms of both.
