Did a manometry and am hooked up with a 24hr PH today! It is my third time with both, but first time with them in the US (and the technology seems to be better/improved here within that time frame).

When they put the 24hr ph into my stomach they registered 55, which the nurse said was high for acid for someone who is taking a PPI (I am currently taking Nexium). I have been getting heartburn so this test should be faithful to my symptoms, can't wait! I hope that from this comes a solution, either a new medication (doubt it), or the option of surgery.

I never thought I would be happy getting these uncomfortable tests done, BUT I guess that goes to show that you never know how bad it can get. I used to complain about just having to take Nexium (which worked for me in the past), now I am hoping that the results will show some, any solution to my constant heartburn...

Does anyone know the standard levels of ph? When I find out my numbers Id love to compare them to what some of yall have, and the normal range...

When I had this test, I could not get the results exactly until I eventually got referred to a surgeon who then told me that my sphincter value was ineffective, something about the pressure being 8 and it should be 15? Not clear entirely what he meant but eh, I'm having a nissen next Tuesday. Hope you find the answer you want.

I had all the tests done about 2 and 1/2 years ago... thank goodness my surgeon said there was no reason to submit to such torture again:) My Demeester score, while on meds, was 27 - normal values 14.7 or less.... and my LES pressure was 6.

I am also having the Nissen next Thursday, so Spike I will be watching to see how you do:) I was diagnosed with Barretts esophagus 8 years ago.

Good luck with your sugery... I will remember you in my thoughts and prayers:)

Hi Acidrefluxman,

I was recently told by a surgeon that a Demeester score of 14 or under is considered normal.
Good luck with your tests! I had them the beginning of December, and I remember them well!
Take care,
