I seen my surgeon for the second time in a week. He said my gastric emptying study came back normal. He's not sure what's going on so he wants to send me down to Madison which is about 2 hours away. I want to get a second opinion before I drive that far. It just seems like there won't be an end to the nausea and I will have to live with it forever. I did ask him for domperidone but he said because my study was normal I don't need it. He also cutting me off of reglan which is the only thing that makes a dent in the nausea. I'm just so sick of feeling sick to the point I sit in the bathroom for hours. It's starting to take over everything I do.

Michelle-
Sorry you are still having such a problem. If you go to Madison, you might want to go a bit farther to Loyola. I know a doctor there that is wonderful.

Take care,
Bill

My family doctor gave me a month's worth of domperidone since i have problems with excessive burping after eating everything, and even the GI says it is good, and it has been helping me a lot. I have not done a stomach emptying test, wondering if I should do one just in case...I don't want to depend on the medicine!

But I hope that you find a solution to the nausea soon =(

:( That's ridiculous!! Demand the domperidone, and say you need it! You've still got your symptoms. All my test results came back normal and I'm still allowed it. In fact, on my first ever visit to my GP, before they'd done any tests, I was prescribed domperidone.

I've also heard that that gastric empyting scan isn't always reliable. Just because your stomach emptied normally then, doesn't mean it does all the time (or even most of the time).

Where's Loyola Bill? Never heard of it. I made an appt for a second opinion, I see that dr in two weeks. I'm thinking of looking into a law suit because the only test my surgeon did before the first nissen was the scope. All the other tests were done after surgery. For all I know, I didn't have reflux to begin with, it could have been something else since nothing is being resolved by the nissen. I'm not sure how worth it it would be.

The dr I'm seeing in two weeks has been working with stomach problems for over 20 years so he's more experienced than my surgeon.

Michelle,

Loyola Hospital is in Maywood IL, on the western side of Chicago.  Bill has a great idea referring you to Loyola.

Another thought is Mayo in Rochester, MN.  I assume when you said Madison you meant University of Madison Hosptial., Wisconsin ? :-)

I agree, your Dr. saying you did not need something for the nausea was out of line.  Nausea is a subjective phenomenon and not something the Dr. can see so IMHO he should believe you when you say you need something for the nausea.

Hope you can get a second opinion soon.

Kindly,
Kitt

He said I could go to Milwaukee or Madison so I'm guessing that's the one Kitt. I told him I wanted to try domperidone because the side effects are less than reglan. You would think he would be ok with that.

Hi Michelle,
I agree with Kitt. How does he know what you need? He can't feel what you're feeling. Be persistent. Make it his problem.
Good luck!

Hello Michelle: I know what you are going through. My surgery was for a large hitial hernia and a 270 degree stomach wrap. My surgery was done on 9/01/10 in asheville, nc. To this day, i am still having problems with food rejection and the urge to vomit. Before my operation, there was no tests done on me at all - only a scoping and i have a history of barrets esopghus . I am really upset at my outcome and i am seeking an attorney for a malpractice lawsuit. My new gi doctor has told me, what has been done - can not be reversed and i have to live with it. I feel like my lifestyle has been taken away from me as i enjoy eating out. I am on Protonix for stomach acid twice a day. It does not help any more. naussa medication does not help at all. So, just what can one do? For now, do the best you can and the best of luck to you in getting your problem taken care of no matter where you might have to go. Take care bob
