Had to say I had a great meeting this afternoon with a Surgeon that really put my mind at ease. The second thing that also put me at ease is that my co-workers best friend recommended this surgeon b/c he did his wrap. Which was very successful. Probably the most encouraging thing I heard from him was when I asked how many Nissen Fundoplications has he performed and his answer was " I lost count because of the amount of them I have done." Than he says to me "I did 4 today and I have one getting prepped while Im here with you."
His confidence was uplifting and my co-workers positive results gave me hope.
Can't get any surgery until next year but it seems like something I may do. The barretts is getting worst so I don't really have a choise.

At least todays session was a positive one.

Hi tracks,
There's nothing more important than an experienced Nissen surgeon, so it sounds like you're on the right track! You've made the most important first step.
Best wishes!

He sounds good. My surgeon said it was one of his favorite surgeries to perform.. he did an excellent job. Why are they waiting so long for the surgery? if your barretts is getting worse?

I had a meeting with my gastro, and ask about doing my Nissen surgery in my home town simple because it is a 150 miles from where my gastro is. He said, we do a lot of re-do's here....and then he ask, would you rather have somebody that has done thousands of these surery's or somebody that has done a hundred? so the decision is to do it the Mayo....

At this point I just want to get it over with and get on with the healing and then back to life.

Thanks everyone. From reading all the posts here it was a no brainer to go out and find the best that there is. Living in NYC there are a large number of Doctors but out of so many there are only a small amount that are the best.
Ekirch I have to wait to next year because I have to switch health insurance companies and the policy is that I can only switch insurance companies during the months of October and November. The insurance would not kick in until January the Following year. So the surgery will have to wait to 2012.
I can live with what I have right now and I feel like I have the weight of the world off my back after meeting him. Plus I know someone who had the surgery performed by the exact doctor.
My friend said that this doctor gave him a new life. Honestly I can;t ask for more than that.

Hi tracks83,

Good news for finding a good experienced surgeon who instils confidence. This alone makes you feel so much better. From my experience, when I met my surgeon I was so overwhelmed by his response and sympathy that I had tears in my eye (not easy for a man) lol. To talk with someone who fully understands and can help is great. I am now on day 17 post op and doing well.

Hopefully time will appear to go quickly for you before your surgery, good luck
