Has anyone got rid of their barrets using ablation? If so, where did you go and how did you do it? This is something I want to look into. Did your dr. have to refer you? How long did you have to wait to get in? Did insurance cover it?

I had Barrets and the Mayo clinic in Scottsdale Az got rid of it. I am going for my last EGD this Tuesday and then meet with a surgeon to discuss having the Nissen procedure.

Yes my insurance covered it.

The Mayo is very slow, but very good.

Good luck.

Hi Pat,

Did you need a referral from your dr., or did you just call them? How long did it take you to get in? Anything else I should know? I am going to try to get into the Mayo clinic in Florida.

Hey Pat,

I might be in a similar situation. I have had heartburn on and off for 3 years and the meds don't work for me anymore. I have Barrets and still get heartburn daily....and have been thinking, should I get the Nissen first, or the ablation...

So from what you wrote it seems like the ablation should come first, then the surgery?

I had the ablation to get rid of mine it took 2 procedures then I had my nissen about 3. Weeks later that was 2 weeks ago...my insurance coverered it my the doctors and hospitial are the ones who got the approvel from my insuance to cover it... So far I am very glad I did it all my biopsys have come back fine... And I am less stressed about it...the first RFA I had was pretty painfull the second time not nearly as bad ..

How long did you all have Barrets? Also, did you have dysplasis? I have just been diagnosed with Barrets with no dysplasia. Need some help with this as I am very scared.
