Hi everyone.  Haven't posted in a while because I've been doing ok for the most part managing this GERD thing.  Hasn't been an easy road but have been ok.
Anyway, last weekend had lots of "bad" gerd food (chocolate, coffee, chips and pop)...and now I'm paying for it big time -- heartburn since Sunday (it is now Wednesday).
A bit of history...I am on 40 mg of Nexium per day...taken in the morning.  My heartburn occurs more in the day.....seem to be able to sleep through the night (thank goodness).
Did have a down the throat 4 years ago and everything looked ok and in October 2009 had a barium swallow which confirmed moderatately severe GERD but no strictures (thank goodness again).
Anyway, have made an app't to again be referred to my GI.   Just wondering if anyone else has had these problems.  I guess I am starting to worry about all the damage that has been done to my esophagus and barretts.
Any advice would be appreicated

Hi eugenia,

If you had an endoscopy four years ago and all was fine, and have been on Nexium, it's unlikely that you've gotten Barrett's in the meantime. Relax!

Sorry to hear you're struggling. Hopefully things will settle down soon, and you'll be feeling better.

Good luck with your GI appointment! I think it's a great idea.
Take care,

thanks Dencha....I think the last time I posted you gave me good advice also!!

I think when I get these major flare-ups my anxiety level goes through the roof and that doesn't help matters.

I'm laying low (food-wise) sticking to very bland foods for the next week and hopefully things will settle down.  I tell never pays to cheat when you are feeling good!!
