I first apologize to everybody, the English is not my first language and sometimes I make mistakes, I have been suffering from GERD from around 2 years, they have been the worst 2 years of my life, the PPIs don't work for me, and my doctor suggested that I should have the laparoscopy Nissen fundo done, because I can benefit from it. I had manometry, endoscopy and 24 hours PH monitoring done, and it looks like I am a good candidate for the surgery. But I am honestly terrify about this surgery, but at the same time I can't live like this any longer. I would love to hear the experiences of people that have gone through it, also if you guys can give me tips I would really appreciate it. I live in new york city and my surgeon have been doing this procedure for the last 20 years.

Hi Laura,
Don't will do just fine. I know how you feel, though. I went through the same feeling for four years before I finally got the courage to go forward with the surgery.

If you go to the main page of the GERD forum, and look at the jhayes thread, "Fundo in 2 Days" post, I've copied my old posts from my early recovery, and you can get an idea of what the early days of recovery were for me. It might give you an idea of what to expect.

Good luck with your decision! Many of us went through the same feelings before we had surgery. I'm sure others will be by to share their experiences as well.

Take care,

Hi Laura,

Don't worry about your pending op it will be fine - it's the best thing that you can do under your circumstances.

I too had surgery only 30 days ago and now I feel so much better - no acid reflux!. You may have some symptoms post op but as long as you take care of yourself and allow yourself time to heal, then things should get easier.

Hello Laura: Before any surgery is done on you, make sure that the person who is going to do your surgery explains to you EVERYTHING about it and what you shall experience after the surgery. We are all not the same and what might work well on one person, might not work on another. You said that your surgeon/doctor has been doing this for over 20 years - that is a good sign in itself. Please understand what is to take place after your surgery and the healing process you shall have to endure. I had this surgery in Asheville, NC on 9/01/10 and i am sorry to say, i am still having major problems from it. Again, what might work well on one, might not work on another. Your in an excellent forum to understand the pros and cons of this surgery from many of the people that have had this done. The best of luck to you in your decision to have this done. Take care bob

hi Greyghost if you don't mind me asking, what kind of problems you have after the surgery, did it help your reflux?, was your surgeon experienced? basically what went wrong with you?
