Hello and I am a long time sufferer! Having a new intense break out of what they believe is reflux. With me it has caused anxiety big time as I have left breast pectoral pain also. I have had in the last 6 months Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Cardio CT and Radial Heart Cath that all came up negative except GERD? Lately gerd and pain in back, chest and upper stomach pretty bad. I continue to get the brush off it seems as a change of med here or lose weight, which I have 20lbs in the last month but the symptoms are as bad as ever! I take prevacid 30mg 2xs, and xanax for the anxiety that accompanies 8 years of this. Is there anyone else out there with these types of symptoms? I mean it replicates Angina to a tee yet EKG and blood always says ok? Just recently same thing. Sometimes I think I am losing my mind trying to get the docs to commit! I have Sleep Apnea as well that they figure may be also responsible for anxiety. My back between shoulders is tight, I have had hoarseness for almost a year off and on from acid they think. I used to have acid just roll up my esophagus and choke me at night when sleeping but the meds and Apnea machine stop that. Thoughts?

It sounds like your vegus nerve is very irratated. It connect to both the stomach and the heart. When the esophagus or stomach is inflamed with Gerd it can cause the nerve to react and cause chest pains along with other issues.

Is your bed propped up to help with the nighttime refluxes that break through?

I do prop myself and find I do feel some relief when I stretch and lean backwards. The Apnea machines positive pressure helps keep acid at bay. I have sore upper left quadrant in the abdomen and in my back under shoulder blades. I can hump my back and it will pinch some? And ribs hurt when breathing in deeply.

Welcome to the GERD forum. I agree with Joy and Alcie can give you some serious info on it too. Basically Most of us have the heart like symptoms at some time during our battle with this disease.
I'd recommend still raising the bed frame up some for times you may not be using the PAP machine, but still lying in bed. Plus it will help the PAP keep the acids and such where they belong. I didn't think I could get used to a raised bed, but now my wife and I prefer it and have issues when traveling. If you are not happy with your care....Find someone else! The biggest problem seems to be with doctors with this disease. Their lack of giving us good service and wanting to help us for extended times seems to be an issue I see on here a lot for newcomers. We seem to get the "you have GERD/acid reflux, take this and have a good life". There has to be a way of giving us our lives back, whether meds, surgery, or both and following through with us to make sure we are having quality lives. I am sure there are many other diseases that are treated the same as us, but I am a bit sensitive to the issue while recovering in the hospital from an esophageal perferration repair. LOL!

Yes there are many just like you, but don't give up.

Take care,
Bill

Thanks Bill and all! It is a help as you know to hear others like me have similar issues. I am fearful all the time to over do it exercise wise due to the heart symptom. This caused me to be put on various meds for the last 7 years or so treating the secondary affliction, anxiety rather than the root, GERD! Thus i put on weight, 60 plus pounds quickly as they use suppressive meds to cool the anxiety. Those also shut down metabolism as well! I find it is "well your heart is fine, do this do that see ya" from the docs and they treat you at urgent care like a hypochondriac which ticks me off to no end. I have come down in weight from 348 all time high to under 300 now 20 pounds in the last month yet the symptoms are worse than ever. Doc feels that with my gall bladder gone I have no valve and unregulated bile is the issue in my gut? They are thinking suppressing some of that . I have the big pinch in the back and pectoral pain as well which ALWAYS is an issue. It scares me and becomes the ERs ONLY focus rather than looking at the real issues.

Interesting you bring up the gall bladder issue. We get a discussion once in a while about the connection of no gall bladder and reflux. I believe Denise has been told her latest dx was bile reflux. I know I had it, but the wrap should stop that too. Deal with this thing long enough and it will make anyone have anxiety. I do.
I see you get the same talk at the end also. Basically take this med and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

take care,
Bill
