3 1/2 years ago I had my gallbladder removed. During all the testing prior to that they diagnosed me with a Hiatial Hernia and GERD. The doctors pretty much told me to "not worry about it."

I was never really explained what either was, so most of what I know about it comes from what Ive read online.

Over the past 2 or so years, Ive gained about 20 lbs, but im still pretty thin. (5'9 150lbs) My stomach though, does not show this. It is constantly distended to the point where people think Im pregnant.

Ive have done everything that I can think of-diet-exercise-etc. It never seems to help. Every once in a while it will go down a bit, but never to where it "matches" the rest of my body size.

Ive been trying to find something online connecting everything but Im coming up short. Is there something Im missing, or something different I should be doing?

I do not smoke and only drink on occasion-socially. I stay away from citrus for the most part (i have some fresh fruit every once in a while) and I do my best to stay away from fried foods. Im still trying to figure out foods I can and cannot eat because it literally changes every day. (I can have the same thing 10x in a row and on the 11th time I will get extremely sick) So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi star19,

I don't know how old you are, but at 58 I've been dealing with a similar issue. When I was younger I never had the problem of a "gut" that stuck out.

I'm also pretty tall--probably about a half inch taller than you. When I gained weight (about 20 pounds as well), I started having the same problem. It seemed like no matter what I did, I couldn't get rid of it. I never had the problem of weight going to my belly like that.

I do think some is bloating (it can relate to what I eat at times), but in the end, the only thing that worked was losing that 20 pounds again. While it's not perfect, my belly is pretty much gone, and now I don't look pregnant from the side!

I wish I could give you better news!
If you're super young, I don't know if this will relate to you, but as we're similar height, weight, and body type, I related immediately to the problem.

Bummer, huh?
Take care, and good luck!
Denise

Hi Star,
Yup it does suck. Hey at your age it won't take long. Being tall comes in handy when it comes to handling weight.

It's a super bummer!
If you feel bloated inside, and have a lot of gas, that's another story. It's just my experience. i thought it was funny when I read it...I totally got what you were saying.
Take care,
Denise
