hi , sorry this thread is so long
I hope there is someone that can shed some light on what is going on in this body of mine, last christmas i was eating peanuts when i felt that i had one stuck in my throat, couldnt get rid of it so went to bed thinking by the morning it would of gone, it hadnt the feeling was still there, eventually went to doctors, they couldnt see any thing but said my throat looked rather red and inflammed, tried antibiotics , then some kind of anti stress drug to try and relax my throat eventually after 8 months they sent me to the hospital, i had some kind of tube put up my nose so they could look down my throat, was told it was clear and that is was probably gerd and to go home and take gaviscon, i got use to the feeling and it didnt bother me to much, then this christmas woke up and i had lost my voice (well almost ) i was extremely hoarse few days later i started to feel burning in my chest and back, before i lost my voice i kept getting this taste of like peppermint in my mouth, the burning got a lot worse and i felt like it was going from my tongue to my stomach , i also had i also had a really bad hollow feeling in my stomach like constant hunger pangs the doctor said with heartburn the taste would be bitter i dont seem to be able to find out why i now get this very strong taste like i have chucked a bottle of peppermint oil down my throat i can also feel this peppermint taste in my chest, the only thing that relieves it is eating but as soon as i finish eating the taste comes back and it also feels like at times someone has lit a fire in my chest if any one has any idea what this could be i would be really grateful

Yes, Kassie, I have much the same smptoms as you. Mine started about October last year with a lump in my throat. My husband had been extremely ill just before that and I attributed it to a nervous lump which did not go away even though I did not afterwards feel upset. I saw my regular dr who then sent me to the ENT who put the light down my nose and said my throat was inflamed and that it was the result of the stomach acid coming up and burning my throat. They're supposed to know so who was I to question but certainly the drugs they gave me did not help-as I've shared in earlier posts, just gave me extreme heartburn and more, whereas I'd only had occasional heartburn before. I take Gaviscon every day but I'm trying to wean of that now as I'm trying the spring water treatment shared by Northern Joe- I'm sure you'll find his posts on the main GERD page. It's worth reading and it could help you-heaven knows, not much else does. The pain in my back is starting to decrease and I'm hoping it's the spring water I've been using for about 4 days now so we'll see. I intend to give it a good try. Good luck to you, Carol
