Has anyone been diagnosed with this? My dr thinks I might have it and that's what is causing my nausea but I can't tolerate the prep for the test. She is having me take the antibiotic course for it anyway to see if I improve. My question is how long does it take the antibiotics to start working if I do have it?

Hi Babygirl,
I'm not sure if she suffered from nausea as well as diarrhea, but another member here had problems for about 2 years, and finally a doctor put her on an antibiotic for it, and finally was cured. Hopefully she'll be by to speak to it herself (LadyJane).
Not sure if it relates, but it did make me think of her issue and long-awaited resolution.

Is there a way to email her directly? I'm kind of nervous about starting the antibiotics tomorrow and not sure what they will do if I don't have bacterial overgrowth.

Hi Michelle,
I don't feel comfortable giving you her email, but I just send her an email with the thread copied and pasted, and requested that she either email me back or check out your thread in the forum and speak to you directly. Now we just have to hope that she checks her email!
Good luck with everything. I hope it solves your problem!

That's fine! I picked up the antibiotics tonight. They are called metronidazole 500mg if that helps anything. I'm going to look them up to see what I can find before I take them.

Hi Michelle,
She wrote right back...I hope it helps! Denise

LadyJane wrote:

about babygirl. I dealt with the nausea, bloating, terrible gas and chronic diarrhea for 2 1/2 YEARS!! The GI's kept telling me a bunch of stuff, wanted me to try 6 months of Flagyl...but, I was also dealing with chronic Urinary Tract Infections...caused by the diarrhea and malabsorption...I couldn't take the flagyl the first week of every month because I was constantly treating the UTI's. Finally, my Family Doctor said enough, said no tests, forget the flagyl, and he just treated me for C. Diff. and it worked (was it vancomyacin???) I have to say that biopsies they took did not reveal C. Diff., but the treatment for it stopped the problem; further research on this says that the tests aren't always right...

Now, I have you use a probiotic every time I'm on an antibiotic. I'm very susceptible to UTI's and diarrhea from antibiotics.

Perhaps she can get her family doctor to do the same....

Hi Michelle,
Are you okay? I got the information you wanted, and posted it immediately, but haven't heard from you since. It is was a bit confusing to me, since I thought you were very anxious for the response.
I hope you are doing well.

Sorry! I did read it but I can't figure out what C. Diff. is? I started the Flagyl yesterday and I haven't noticed anything yet. I'm sure it takes a few days. I've noticed the few days before yesterday my symptoms have been pretty bad at night. I feel horribly bloated..it's noticable too...stomach rumbling, feels like stuff is sitting in my throat and coming up, burning. It feels like if I talk, bend over, any kind of pressure on my stomach at all will make me sick. I was doing "better" for a few days and now it's bad again.

ETA: I'm not sure if this is normal after a stomach surgery but it seems like my "fullness meter" doesn't work, I can't tell when I'm full. I don't do this very often but I'll eat a small amount of something, wait 20-40 minutes, still hungry (like I haven't eaten at all) so I'll eat a little more, wait again, still hungry but most of the time I stop. So basically there's time I will eat until I feel sick but it's like my body doesn't register that it's full if that makes sense. I'm either hungry or feeling nauseous. Most of the time I deal with being hungry.

Hi Michelle,
I think when you're experiencing nausea, it's hard to stop eating. It's like, you keep thinking if you eat something it'll make it feel better...a vicious circle. I hope the antibiotic does the trick for you.

Here's some information about C Diff:
www.mayoclinic.com/health/c-difficile/DS00736
Hope it's helpful...
Good luck, and I hope you feel better very, very soon.
Take care,
Denise

babygirl, what youre experienceing with symptoms  sound a lot like what I was diagnosed with when my dr did a Hydrogen breath test to check for bacterial overgrowth. My test came back positive very quickly, they also gave me flagyl..it did nothing. The only thing I can say helped me was changing my diet by eliminating excess carbs sugars and refined products as well as fermented or gassy foods, by taking a potent probiotic and also taking some anti-fungal and antimicrobial herbs that I researched intensely. I also went on a candida albicans diet at one point fearing I may have had some of that too. It took a few months but the symptoms started going away and all but cleared up. Once in a while if I start eating bad again they will come back and I have to start over again.

I am in no way diagnosing you or saying you had what I did, but I would further research and maybe look for a naturopath if your problems don't go away. It can't hurt but help.

I can't tolerate the lactolose prep so I guess it's just a trial run of the antibiotics but so far nothing. For those of you who have had/have it, what were all your symptoms? It seems I can eat whatever I want in small amounts up until 3pm and whatever I eat after that gives me issues.

Falling Water, do you only avoid fructose or glucose, dextrose, etc?

Bittersweet, how do I go about finding a naturopath?
Michelle
