Good Morning,
I have been checking the best way to post and if there was a certain protocol for newbies to follow before posting for the first time, but am afraid got lost in the system a bit.
So here goes my problem, and I hope someone out there can give me their opinion based on their experience.

It started as a fuzzy feeling in the throat 2 years back which later started feeling like a block in the throat, mid of last year. i went to an ent, who said that there was nothing wrong, he gave me anti acidity medicines to sort the issue, but it did not help.

i dont have a problem swallowing, but its just that feeling in the throat thats annoying and i tend to keep swallowing to feel better.
i do have a history of heartburn and acidity since 8 years or more.

anyway, i decided to do a barium swallow in december, which came back normal and the report specifically mentioned that no hernia was evident.followed up with some more medicines, rabeprazole 20mg twice a day, a medicine called fixit 3/day, and zymogen 3/day, (some digestive enzymes) and  no releif as such, and did an endoscopy. now the endoscopy images show that there is a large hiatus hernia, and the doctors advised that i need a surgery within 2 weeks.

was not convinced by it, so took a second opinion. the second doctor saw both the xray and endoscopy cd and said that there is no hernia at all. he advised me domperidone 10mg thrice a day. rabeprazole 20mg twice a day, started with zymogen for sometime and discontinued it after a month.

so i have 2 specialists giving two completely different opinions, I had to take a third opinion.

The third doctor saw the xray and the endoscopy cd, and said that there is a hernia seen in both. He has asked me to take only rabeprazole 20mg once a day, and said that repeating the tests is not required, and neither is surgery, unless there is no change in symptom at all within a year's time. he has asked me not to eat anything after 8 pm, i am trying hard to do it.

All the three doctors that i visited were gastroenterologists. I am inclined towards believing what the third doctor mentioned. Since Feb, I have gone on a strict diet and lost a lot of weight, just to escape any chance of surgery.

But i still have the blobby feeling in my throat, which is annoying. when i swallow, it goes and then its feels again. sometimes i forget about it completely, sometimes its just there.

Any advice, am just to stressed because of this.

Have a Plesant Day.

Have you had a motility study done? It's know as a manometry.
They thread a small tube down you nose to your stomach and have you drink while it measures the pressure inside.

Hello and welcome,

Joy is right so I would ask for that test.

Also I noted that only one Dr. did the scope and the other two just looked at the CD.  Perhaps a second scope is called for.  It seems you are getting way to much conflicting information. Just a thought.

Take care and do stick with us.

Kindly,
Kitt

Motility study is a new name to me and I would be surprised if they would know it here. sending a tube down the nose sounds very painful.

regarding the scope, I did feel the same, although I am averse to repeating it, but maybe thats a way to go.how wrong can a doctor be if he actually sees something that others missed. the thing is the last doctor doesnt feel that i need to even repeat the test. he saw the hernia in both the xray and scopy cd.

while reading this site, i have noticed so many having worse symptoms, so is it really a concern or am I over reacting to it all. I do tend to think a lot about health issues. As also mentioned earlier, i have made major diet changes and have lost weight, just to try to control whatever I already have.

again what puzzles me, is this, if i have a hiatus nernia, why do i feel the blob in my throat.

thanks in advance for your response.

It's called a manometry. They numb your nose and back of your throat with a gel so you don't hurt unless you have a deviated septum like I had. then it feels like their banging into walls in there. It's more of a gagging issue for most and you can't be sedated in anyway.

The blob feeling is where your throat is irritated.
