Hello, I am brand new to this forum. I found it while trying to find information on
a esophagus related problem I have. I read several posts that sounded very much like what I suffer from. I also get a lump in my throat and it almost always shows up in the middle of the night waking me up out of a dead sleep
I first noticed it back around 1996 or 97 the doctor diagnosed it as a Esophageal Motility Disorder. if I eat too much too fast (which I have done all my life) it flares up and chokes my throat like crazy. also it doent help that I need to lose 40 lbs so I am very careful when and what and how much I eat
when this happens at night I have to drink what feels like a gallon of water to
try and bring it up and clear my throat. the dr told me there is no cure and I should simply lose weight. I find nothing simple about losing weight. ha ha
anyway I was just wondering if anyone suffer from this? thanks for allowing
me to join in.

Hello 151, I do relate to the lumpy throat situation n oily spicy foods trigger it.I too tend to drink more water to rid myself of the lumpy feeling.but it comes n goes.
Out of choice n fear of surgery I have worked on losing weight n I hope it will help me in the longer run,if god wills.
But weight does have a major impact so maybe you should really consider the weight angle.it's not easy but it's not impossible either.

Rasberry, Good Morning and thanks for your reply it is very much appreciated
you are quite right that losing weight is a key factor in dealing with this situation
the Dr. had also told me if I kept my weight down it would pretty much go away in terms of systems. To that end, I have lost about 11 lbs from where I was
so hopefully this will subside soon, I drink a lot of water and don't eat past about 4 or 5pm plus I am trying hard to eat small meals. what about you what do you find that helps? I am sorry to hear you suffer from what sounds like the same problem, I will keep a good thought and a prayer for you.thanks again
