I had this surgery Feb. 1, 2011. I am now back on my reflux meds. and experiecing reflux once again. What does this mean? I don't do heavy lifting not over 30 pounds. Does anyone have advice? Is it common for it to loosen? I can't think of anything I've done that could weaken it. Im eating solid foods and have been since maybe six weeks after my surgery.

Oooops...
It sounds like something went wrong. Have you talked with the GI?

You should be feeling good by now...
Insist on a barium swallow, EGD, and manometry to check it out.

Ohh. I really hated that manometry test but I guess I have to do it.

I agree with the Barium swallow. It shows the most for the least pain. The rest aren't fun, and I personally hated them so much I wouldn't push them. But that's me.

It's still plenty early and you could still be healing. I got off PPIs after 2 weeks, but lots of people never do get off them.

Did you have a full wrap? Maybe it was just done too loose. The barium swallow will show if there is any reflux going on.

Have you had any vomiting or done anything that caused serious pressure to the abdomen? That's about all I can think of that could loosen a wrap that was done right.

This isn't an exact science. Everyone reacts differently. Best wishes!

I don't work the most i do is walk. No vomiting. I go to the surgeon tomorrow and I will ask what kind of wrap I have. I think it's a full wrap. I occasionally lift my dog but she's only 19 pounds.

Dear Etta,

I'm sorry to hear you're still having problems. Hopefully your surgeon will be able to figure out what is happening.

Best wishes with your appointment today.
Let us know what your surgeon says. Hopefully you'll be able to get some testing so you can discover whether it's acid, or irritation due to the continued post-op healing process.

There are times after a Nissen that some people can get their wrap irritated by something they eat. The pain that results can be very similar to reflux. Also, if you have a reactive stomach, the wrap (made from the stomach) can also react with pain.

Hope you find relief soon!

The surgeon ordered a Barium swallow. I hope all is well.
