Have there been any studies done to see if Alcohol lowers the Lower Esophageal Sphincter pressure LONG Term or for a while after you consume it. Or does it just lower the pressure while your body is metabolizing the alcohol and while it is in your blood stream?

I know that alcohol affects the LES and irritates the stomach. I guess the LES relaxes during and some time after.

short term, dose dependant
i suspect that longer term effects at moderate an high doses degrade the les and nerve function

heres one research article abstract

-----

"Effects of graded doses of alcohol upon esophageal motor function.
