hi,,,

i was diagnosed with GERD about a year ago.. i went to the hospital with horrid chest pains thinking i was having a heart attack which turned out to be GERD. Dr. didnt do a dang thing.. went to a walk in clinic.. dr gave me losec (which here in canada is similar to prilosec) and it worked great.. took as needed... the heartburn is horrible..and i get these almost spasmatic pains on my right back shoulder pains from time to time.. any one else with symptoms like that? i have no family dr and losec is waaaaaaaaay too expensive ... can anyone reccomend something good thats over the counter?? also what is this diet of northern jos?? was looking for it on forum but cant find it? also does anyone else have any diet suggestions?

I have had gerd for a while but I drink spring water only.  I am currently on porridge but introducing a few items at a time.  Egg custard is okay. I eat a few dried crackers at night now.. Thank god but I appear nearly gerd free now!

yeah

I have to say that I also only had good success when I started watching my diet religiously, and followed the  recommended lifestyle changes. I rarely have to take medicine anymore. Prilosic is otc here, but it never helped me anyway. Sometimes it takes a while to settle down.

Good Luck,    Lili

I also watch my diet very carefully, am on the spring water recommended by Northern Joe but I think everyone is different because I am still having lots of pain. Took Losec many years ago for an ulcer and that helped that but for this GERD they've given me Zantac, followed by Domperidome, followed by Nexium, folowed by Pariet. Along with this I also took liquid Gaviscon 4 times a day, sometimes more. Nothing helped and I am a very careful eater, don't eat at night, don't eat deep fried, no tea, coffee or soda, sleep with my bed elevated, etc.  All the things I've heard to do. So, it must depend on your body or something else unknown at the momnent. Yes, Boolie, my feeling is also, Grrrr!! How long can this go on.

I experience those pains also, I have noticed it was when I would eat fatty foods (which I have now cut out of my diet)  I am now going through tests to see if the problem is my gall bladder.  They did an utlra-sound and tomorrow will be doing a scan.  But the pain is on my right shoulder and middle back and can be very painful.  You are not alone.

definitely not alone my partner was beginning to think I was a hypocodriac with the chest, throat, shoulder, I was even getting pain in my arm.
you soon learn tight clothes mean pain. So does the wrong diet.
Good luck to you in your quest to find the right answer
