On 1/25/2005 I had my first attack, I couldn't swallow, and it felt like I was going to die.  After several visits to the ER on 3/1/05 I saw a specialist, and was diaognosed with acid reflux.  Since this has all began, I have lost 20 pounds and still loosing.  I have been taking prilosec and it has slowly been helping but I still have alot of discomfort.  I will sometimes feel like I am having a heard attack, and my chest will often feel tender.  My throat/neck is often sore and in pain, and now I am getting really bad headaches and pressure in my head and temples.  I have changed my diet, and feel I am taking all nessesary steps to heal, but it just seems like it is not working.  I miss the "old me" badly and was wondering if anyone here has felt this way, or had any bad experience with prilosec?  I think if I knew how others feel and handle their reflux it may help.  Thank you.

My symtoms including the throat has gone....... Drink lots of spring or boiled water My symtoms come back with drinking tea decafe or ordinary .... cut out tea, coffee, drink only water.. and a very bland diet, keep a food diary...let me know how you get on.

I am still having trouble swallowing. After 2 weeks finally can eat a little something other then ice cream and pudding. Also lost about 10lbs. Have the feeling that I can't swallow wasn't even able to swallow my saliva. It is slowly getting better but I wish it would get better faster.

GI dr did a EGD and that came back as acid reflux and ENT scoped my throat and very red. I am currently on Nexium 2x a day, Zantac at night and Librax 2X a day. Both my GI and ENT are big on hitting it hard. That is why I am on so many pills. I am no Dr but i would see about getting on something 2x a day. Even trying something like milanta throughout the day.

Hello. I am new and still trying to figure out whats going on with my body. I have an array of symptoms probably spanning many different diseases, one of which is perhaps GERD! I have been getting a lot of chest pain. It hurts right in the middle of my breastbone. I also get a lot of burps that are very embarrassing. Now, one thing i do know is that i have an history of gas, bloating, constipation and so on. My doctor says i may have IBS. Now is it possible for a person to have IBS and GERD at the same time? Additionally, i have very bad muscle pain too. This includes my back, shoulders, neck, abs etc. My abs are also very tender. And just like "enough_is_enough", i have been getting migraine headaches. My forehead and temples are so sensitive. Its a crushing headache that feels like a pressure building up, stiffenning my jaws, ears, neck etc. Not sure if this is a part and parcel of the whole thing! Right now, i am going through a lot of frustration not getting any answers from doctors. I have been to the ER and they keep running the blood work and EKG saying everything looks good. Any advise is deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Hi LiberyGirl. I have no answers for you ... just wanted to let you know I have been experiencing many of the same symptoms. For about a year now I have GERD, joint and muscle pain, dizzyness and numbness/tinglingling (these two symptoms SEEM to be finally getting a little less), headaches, etc. I have had every bloodwork and scan and there seems to be nothing systemic that they can find. I have been on a variety of meds for the GERD so I am not sure what were the original symptoms and what has mutated due to side effects from the meds. The only thing I know is my body is not the one I know. I have no answers ... but I empathize with your frustration. I just try to take each day as it comes and deal with the individual symptoms.

Enoughis enough, I love your name as that is how I feel as well! I am on Nexium (the Prilosec gave me bad side effects) and it seems to sometimes help and sometimes not. I also have changed my eating habits, sleep inclined, and made all alterations to my life that the docs suggest but to no avail. I have no answers. This indeed sucks!

Thank you Lady39. Yes, it is the weirdest thing. I just can't seem to find the "original" me!! I also have numbness in my arms and feet. Besides all the pain i am getting in various parts of my body, I have also lost a lot of stamina. I used to be very active. I just feel so weak now. This kind of headache where your head, temples, jaw, ears hurt is best described as migraine. Now of course, migraines can be caused by hormonal changes which in turn can be a result of emotional distress. I am hoping this shall go away soon coz its been 10 days now. It is one of those things where each body is different. Most women i think will experience some level of hormonal changes! I hope someday we shall all be able to enjoy life as it were before. For me, it all began as a muscle pain in the back ribs and lower back for which i was given anti-inflammatory drug. Things have only gotten worse since then. No more pills for me, until i know something with absolute certainty. I have been referred to Rheumatologist, neurologist and of course a GI specialist. Hopefully i shall have better answers by the end of month. Hey i am no doctor but it is hard to imagine that something with your digestive system can cause headaches, joint pain and muscle pain. I've even had vision issues and skin issues. It is indeed scary coz my mind thinks that i have a serious condition which isn't being diagnosed! Who knows i may have GERD and something else to compliment it:) Oh well... At least i lost the final 2 lbs i always wanted to lose:D LOL...

Hi and welcome LibertyGirl, I am one of many people who has both GERD and IBS. It may be in fact that all of your aches are not related to your GI problems and that your GI problems may be related to all of your aches OR may not be related at all. I have IBS, GERD, and degenerative disc disease and have been told that they are not related. Please let us know what you find out from your specialists. The best thing you can do is to get all of the tests done so you can have some peace of mind. HUGS

I know exactly how you feel, it can really change your life!  I was recently diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on a anti-biotic and Zantac.  I have had several appt's with the ENT docter and the GI doctor, which none of them really had a result for me.  I get the choking sensation, shortness of breath, dizziness, and cotton mouth all with it.  The doctor took me off of Zantac and now I am back to square one.  The only advice I can tell you is to stay hydrated (b/c it made me de-hydrated) and if you cant eat to drink a lot of nutritional drinks.  As far as food goes, drink lots of broth, the last thinkg you want to do is have something else go wrong b/c of the "not eating" properly.  Last and foremost, when you get a feeling of "losing it", take a few minutes and stop what your doing and just breathe and get your thoughts together. I feel as though we can all beat this thing if we learn to attack it while its attacking us.

Hi Enough,
I know first hand the frustration you are feeling!...This is a chronic condition, and for some  of us, this is a very long road. My first big flare up of this came in September.  I am feeling much better, but still not to "my old self"...and, honestly dont know if I ever will be the same as I used to be.  I have modified my diet, sleep on my left side...and I have been on protonix since sept.  It has taken this long ( 5 months),and I can say that I have some days whre i almost forget I have this....not too many symptoms thru out the day....but then, I seem to slip back again....and feel the pains in my back between my shoulderblades or the lump in my throat again....But even when im feeling bad, it is not as bad as it originally was, so I have to remember that, and think positive.  It is a slow process for some of us, and takes awhile to heal.  Just remember, you are not alone....many of us suffer the same symptoms.  I love your name by the way!!..lol

WaynoIam, what is the Librax for?  I am on prevacid twice a day and reglan at night and it doesn't help. If I need something else, maybe I'll take Librax!  please tell me what it is for...thanks

Someone2007,

Please let us know what the doctor said, okay?  You're pretty young to have GERD, so I hope you don't!
