I am 10 days post fundoplication. I have read many posts on peoples recovery but have not seen anyone specifically address swelling. I am still have a good bit of swelling in my belly particularly near my incisions. Is is normal to still have significant swelling after 10 days? I have had minimal pain and the incisions do not seem to have any look of infection. I have been icing a couple of times a day, but still have this swelling. I do not go back to the surgeon for post op visit until the 15th of August. Thanks for any insight.

poovey-
Very normal. you can have swelling still getting worse for 2 to 3 weeks. There was a lot done in there and you body doesn't like it. Make sure to take it easy and get your legs up once in a while.

Take care,
Bill

Poovey,

I am 4 months post Nissen and I found that, even now if I eat too fast or take too big of bites, I will still get that swollen feeling.. just like over full.. that is very uncomfortable.. that is why small bites and CHEW CHEW CHEW is the mantra here. Please continue to take advantage of this forum for all of your questions and concerns.. Share you recovery with us.. I do not know what I would have done without it...

Hey, I'm pretty much 10 days post op as well & I also have swelling. I've read other posts & it seems like this is pretty normal for the first couple wks. ;)

Hi poovey & arsenal009,

Im 5 weeks post-op & still get some days when I feel swollen & bloated. I asked my GP about it & she said it is very normal because our upper GI tract has been revised & it is very easy for air to get trapped behind the wrap. There is a lot going on inside which could take 6 months to 1 year to completely heal & our stomachs have to re-adjust to doing things differently.

Be patient, take each day as it comes.

Take care & keep us posted.

I am almost 6 months post nissen fundoplication (laproscopic surgery) and have lost over 50 pounds (in a year, pre and post op) and have 0 appetite plus many of complications re: the posts I have read here. I am concerned because it is affecting my life negatively. Is there a light at the end of this bleak tunnel?

I appreciate everyone on this forum.
