Called about my endoscopy and they told me i have a hiatal hernia. Dont know the size of it. Going to talk to my primary doc tomorrow and start taking the steps towards surgery. Has anybody had surgery for hiatal hernia? This doesnt help my anxiety. Im so scared rite now.

When they fix your LES they also fix the HH. It's done in one simple surgery. :)

Hi Gene,

Everyone who has had a Nissen has had a hernia repair, so you're among many who've experienced it. However, I do believe that some people get the hernia repair without the Nissen unless their LES is not working properly.

Don't stress. I'm sure it can be done laproscopically, so it will be an easy recovery.

Best wishes!

I think we all worry a lot if our belly is hurting. My surgeon and GI doc both told me that many people have HH with no symptoms at all and some are fairly large. Mine was small but I knew right where it was because it hurt. Everyone is so different.

I'm still worrying too much after my surgery on August 1 because of the fact I can't take Rx pain meds for the post-op pain. It's just not fun to hurt no matter what the reason is and even if you know it's going to stop eventually.

Have you had surgery? I'm sorry but I can't remember.

No i havent had surgery but im looking into getting it. Do doctors just not take HH seriously? Should i go to a gi instead of my primary doc if i want things done? The test said i have a medium sized hernia. I dont want to just have to live with it. It irritates me so much! My primary doc doesnt want to see me til october. What should i do?

Go to a GI. They will get the ball rolling towards surgery.
