I have been reading the initial posts for DES and felt compelled to start a new link for more current posts.  I have just received diagnosis of DES after being treated for GERD for several years.  I have all the symptoms that most have stated from the burning to the swallowing difficlties to reflux to burping to pain in the chest, back and jaws.  It is nice to learn that I am not imagining all of this.  Now my decision is on which method I use to help me through this as it seems to get worse with age.  Losing weight seemed to help but not completely, like others have said it wakes me up at night and happens with just normal breathing.  I like the idea of not taking medication and the peppermint oil has my attention as I always keep pappermint gum on me and a water bottle whenever possible to provide relief with the onset of an attack.  I will listen to any and all suggestions for relief.  Best of luck to anyone in my situation, I truely feel for you.
