I'm on Dexilant 60 mg in the AM. I have LPR/GERD.

I was told by medical professionals I was being overly medicated when I was taking (in addition to a Zegerid 40 mg), 2 Pepcid Complete in the AM and 1 at bedtime and 1 oz of Gaviscon 4 x day as per my GI doctor. I wasn't getting any relief.

Now that my GP has put me on Dexilant, I'm feeling better but I didn't think to ask about the Pepcid or Gaviscon.

I'm sleeping on a high wedge and taking 2 tablespoons of Gaviscon at bedtime but wondering if I should be taking something like Pepcid AC or Zantac?

I'd really appreciate your opinion.

God bless,
cme

I'd call the doctor and ask if it's okay to take it, just to be safe.
I don't know much about Dexilant and what goes okay with it.

I've found that a wedge pillow can cause pressure on the stomach and make reflux worse at night. Bed risers work better and don't cause stress on the lower back or stomach.

i would prob take the zantac at night. If you have LPR you want to prevent acid secretion into your stomach. I think gaviscon neutralize after acid is already in your stomach.

i know the nexium + zantac combo works. However you need to ask your doctor about use with Dexilant. I am not familar with that drug.

I would wait and ask the Doctor. Dexilant lasts longer than the other PPI drugs supposedly.

Thank you for your replies.

Dexilant is actually the old drug, Kapidex (dexlansoprazole).

I will call my pharmacist and check with him. I do believe he's more knowledgeable than my doctor is.

I will post as soon as I find out.

Just spoke with my pharmacist. He said I would have to call my doctor as, "you're only suppose to do one or the other." I do know Dexilant is a time release and I'm taking the max dose, 60 mgs.

I don't need more problems so I think I'll pass on the idea and just continue to take Gaviscon at bedtime until I see my GI doctor. I have an appointment on the 31st.

Thank you all for your support.
