I had very large hiatel hernia repair (75% stomach up in chest, with twist & multiple ulcers) with mesh repair and also had nissen wrap 5 days ago. Doing pretty well, still mainly on clear liquids with little milkshake here and there. Dr wants me to take it slow b/c surgery was hard (> 5 hrs) and do mainly clear liq for first week, then progress to full liquids for week, etc. My bowels started waking up on 2 days post op (Gas) has several BM yesterday, but now today I have BAD diarrhea. Its now all liquid, and am afraid I can't drink enough to keep up with it. Have taken Immodium (Crushed) and it has slowed a little. Has anyone else experienced this? I have IBS and from time to time have bouts of this, but with me already weak, the timing is lousy. Any input appreciated. I can usually drink milk with no problems at all.

Unfortunately the the old addage is "liquid in-liquid out". As long as you're on liquids you'll have diarrhea.

bananas constipate try to have some, good energy as well. Also food that isn't digested properly gets pushed through faster i believe. Try to get some meal supliment shakes to make sure you are getting vitamins etc. You should be fine if you blend everything and stick to carbs and protien shakes. Dont need the stomach to digest carbs.

DAY@TIME

You will have watery stool as long as you are on liquids.. clear liquids in, clear liquids out.. it is the natural flow (sorry) of things.. once you go to full liquids it will slow down some, but as you switch to a soft diet it may come back because you are introducing actual food to your system again... you have had major surgery, actually more than I had and I had a very large HH also, my surgery was over 2 hours..

Please go slow.. it took a long time for you to get in bad shape and it will take time for you to recover.. don't rush it you may do harm rather than good..

Please come to the forum to ask questions as you have them.. we are here to help.. all of us.
