Hello everyone, I have had the nissen wrap January 31, 2011 and for the most part everything went well (thank God). The problem I seem to be having is burping first thing in the morning. I can't seem to have a cup of tea or coffee alone and be able to burp. It almost seems as though I have to eat something with the tea and coffee to be able to get that first burp out. Is this normal and will it likely to get better with time.

I also noticed that I still have to eat every two-and-half hours or so or I start to get the rumblings where the gas builds up. Once I eat, I burp and I am okay, however, at times, I am not really hungry but it seems as though the stomach is hungry.

I am do for an endoscopy on September 21, and I am fighting with the delima of whether a dilation would help or not. I really don't want the surgeon to do anything that can potentially make things worse. I am really scared to have anything done. Could it be that I am still healing and time is my healer. I am scared to have this procedure done and does it work?

I would love to hear from anyone that might be having this problem or had it and fixed it.

Thanks. What a wonderful site.

Cindy

Hi Cindy,

Hope you have been enjoying your special weekend!  I'm afraid the weather is about to take a turn for the worst.  I'm glad you're posting your bloating concerns.  Hopefully others will be by to give you some helpful information.

There was a poster yesterday who is asking for information regarding a surgeon in Toronto.  Did you see it?  I told her about you and said you'd be by sometime and respond to her post.

Have a great day!
Denise

Hey Denise, I am enjoying my weekend. My kids did some shopping....I shop for things for the house. I am leaving tomorrow morning heading back home to Toronto. Denise did you ever experience any of these symptoms. Do you think its because I am still healing. The area where the wrap was done still feels tight. I am assuming that's the case.

Hi Cindy,

I have no doubt that you are still healing.  I've been on this forum for over two and a half years, and have read of many who had a lot of trouble with bloating in the first months, but it gradually subsided over time.  When you get a lot of gas in your stomach and don't burp, does it enter your intestinal system and head out the back door?  That is a very common thing...people tend to have an inordinate amount of gas as they heal.

Did you burp a lot before your surgery?  If so, I'm sure it's very frustrating that you can't do it now.  My stomach only burps itself.  You're right that burps occur when I eat and not in between meals really.  I have had bloating occasionally without being able to burp, but it hasn't been something that bothered me daily.  Most of the time my stomach burped enough to avoid it.

I am pretty confident that as your healing continues the gurgling will subside and things will get working better.  You are the only one who knows how you feel and how difficult it is to manage with your symptoms.  If it's just too difficult to live with, then it makes sense to see if a dilation of your wrap will help.  If you are comfortable enough to wait it out, you could see if things improve, and if not, get a dilation later.  It'll really be your call.

Hopefully somebody will be by who can share their experience.
Hope you had a good trip home, and a fun visit with your sister!
(((Hugs,)))
Denise

Thanks Denise. The gurgling is subsiding and if I eat every three hours, I can go a whole day without feeling it. I just hate the fact that it controls my eating. I am not a big eater. I am one of those people that eat to live. I didn't know that your stomach can burp itself....I used to call those burps "fake burps"...I get those sometimes and I do burp quit a bit after eating which helps alot.

I am not sure if I used to burp a lot beforfe surgery.....I never thought of it as I didn't know it was one of the side effects of having this surgery. I shouldn't complain cause after reading some of the other posts on this forum, I am quite lucky. I didn't experience a quarter of what some of these people are or were experiencing and they made it through.

I don't get a lot of gas in my stomach and yes I do pass it out the other end.

I am not going to have the dilation.....I am too scared.

Take care

Cindy

Hi Cindy,

I don't think that you need to be frightened of the dilation, unless that fear is that it may reduce the effectiveness of your wrap if it should be loosened too much.  There have been many, I'm certain, who've had their wrap loosened successfully, without a bad effect.

That said, if you can give yourself more time to heal, things may sort themselves out and you'll do better without intervention.  You've still got several months ahead to complete your healing, and your difficulties may disappear on their own.

I gave Grace your information, and she said she will be contacting you soon.
Enjoy your day! yeah

Hi Denise, thanks for the info. I think I'll wait it out for the full year. Grace did contact me and we had a nice chat.

Have a great evening.

Take care

Cindy
