Does anyone have any stories to share about this?

Now that my GERD pain is gone I'm noticing just a smidgen of pain (only about 1/10, and it goes away within 5 minutes) on my right side just under my ribs when I eat anything with oil (guacamole, hummus- literally anything). I know they're good fats, but they are still fats, so maybe they're annoying my gallbladder??

My doc asked me at least twice to make sure my pain wasn't on my right side when I saw him for GERD, leading me to believe that the two things can be related.

From my studying, I can see that if the bile isn't emulsifying the fat from my food in the duodenum, it's a possibility that food would just sit in the tummy and possibly cause heartburn (especially at night, which is when I used to get it worse). However, I get the pain very quickly after eating.

Any ideas? Even just a story about your experience would be helpful.

Thanks! I hope everyone is well :)

i have been told that gall bladder "attacks" (pain after eating foods with fat content) can trigger reflux events

and of course the pain is sometimes difficult to distinguish

maybe its time for a professional medical opinion and some imaging?

i remember your vegetarian diet really helped you, maybe this is a big clue regarding the problems source?

sorry you are in pain

hang in there

acid reducing meds work for me but give me a right side pain similar to that...they never happen at the same time. kind of like you, your gerd is gone but you get this pain. that is what happens to me, but w/ meds. interested to see what you find out!

Thanks both,

ARM, what did your doctor end up saying about the pain? I know you've made some posts about them but I haven't been able to find them.

Thanks MockTurtle. It's nuts!

Hope you're both doing well.

doctors never find anything, but the one test I haven't had is a HIDA scan. The doc says he doesn't think its gallbladder, but even if it was he wouldn't think it'd be worth taking out b/c biliary ****nesia doesn't have potential complications like gallstones do.

Actually, I started taking Ranitidine out of pure depression and frustration about a week ago and have been having the right side pain this week...I really want to just put up with it and stay on the pills but to be honest I'll probably stop them within a few days b/c it just doesn't feel right taking something that causes an additional pain, especially where liver/pancreas etc., are, even though all tests come back normal.

My gall bladder was only working at 18% so I had mine removed in 2005. I have been on ppi's for 9 years. My reflux is still out of control. I'm having the Tif surgery on 9-26-11. I would have testing done on your gall bladder as symptoms can be similar. My gall bladder symptom was nausea before and after eating. I have nausea with the reflux as well. Everybody is different. Good Luck!!!

I personally have less GERD problems since my GB was removed back in July. Don't get me wrong, I can still have a good flare up but nothing like before surgery.

When my gallbladder went bad I would get instant pain if I ate french fries. I mean as in I would be still chewing the second bite and the pain started. Mine was only working 24% when they did the hida scan and 2 weeks later when they removed it the surgeon said it had stopped working all together. I saw him for the first time on a Thursday morning and due to my symptoms and the test results he said I would be in emergency surgery sometime during the week end and added me on his schedule that afternoon since he was going on vacation Friday for a week and my wife new this surgeon really well because she worked house keeping at the hospital and did the OR.
I don't remember if my reflux got any better or not, but i was happy to get rid of the stabbing pain in my shoulder blade.

Take care,
