Had a bad night Tuesday. I guess I have a sensitive stomach. They gave me Hydrocodone elixir for some discomfort and it really upset my stomach. Even my Phenergan didn't help, so I you know what. Felt better afterward. Had to stick to jello and water much of today. Decided to try meal replacement (glucerna), this afternoon, and it stayed down. So, I think I have turned the corner and will do better. Not sure if I did anything to my TIF. Dr not sure. I may or may not have. Time will tell. But, so far NO REFLUX! Hope it stays this way. Am getting very optimistic.

2bhappy, good luck to you. I will be thinking of you. Think positive! There are others like us who can really help down the line.

Got to have strained chicken soup today and cream of potato (after blender). Definitely tastes better than jello.

Any other liquid suggestions besides water? I know we need to drink a lot of water, but there must be something else we can also drink, like flavored water, etc.

Try to stick with non-carbonated anything.. coffee was ok with me for about 6 weeks and then the acid got to me and made me nauseous. I can drink cool or cold drinks easier than hot ones.. back when I was at your stage.. cool and warm was it.. there was no cold or hot until about 4 weeks.

I also ate yogurt that was smooth no chunks of fruit. I also had Beef consomme it is thicker than beef broth. Tasted better than just broth. I used the blender on everything I wanted to eat.. once it was liquid I drank it.. tasted so much better than plain liquid and you will get the nutrients also.. watch what you take in that could cause gas.. early days, gas is a part of recovery.. rumblings and such go with it..

More than anything I would advise you to listen to what your body tells you when it comes to eating or doing.. it will tell you if it likes or doesn't like what you are feeding it or doing to it.. LISTEN to it...

Please continue to come here to the forum and ask questions.. tell us your pains and your triumphs.. as big or as small as they may be.. we will be here to support you through your recovery..

Happy first day of Fall, everyone. Yesterday was actually the first day since Monday that I felt like myself. Early in the week, my head was fuzzy, headache, shaky. Now that I have been "eating" more, I am feeling better. Yesterday, I walked around the outside of our house a little bit and sat on the porch. It was nice getting some fresh air and sunshine.

Woke up at 5am this morning, warmed up some milk and drank. A little while later, had my Glucerna. For a mid-morning snack, I will probably have more strained chicken noodle soup. I had bought pureed butternut squash soup, but one of the ingredients is cinnamon, so I am not so sure about it. I tend to be a little leery about what I put in my stomach, so that I don't get nauseated.

Here it is, day 5. Doing better every day. Got frustrated trying to find a puree soup that didn't have a lot of unnecessary ingredients, so I made my own. Made a roasted butternut squash puree and it was GOOD! The best thing is I was able to control the ingredients. My stomach is very happy at the moment. Something besides strained chicken noodle soup!

Of course, cooking for my husband (he got swedish meatballs) and myself made me a little tired, so I think it is time for a catnap. redface

It is so good to hear that you have such a positive attitude toward your recovery, that is 3/4 of the battle to health. If you let the restrictions of this recovery get you down, it will defeat you.. I have tried always to have an upbeat outlook. please know that we know that there may be times that you get a bit down.. after all how long can you eat/drink the same diet without getting a bit testy??? We all have been there.. we know what you feel..
I wish I had thought of the squash puree early in my recovery.. didn't have it until about week 3-4. I loved my blender too... I learned how to blend almost everything...

Sandi,

I just came across the idea when they said we could have pureed cooked veggies, and I thought about the butternut squash (which I LOVE), cream of potato, and carrot puree soup (these are next).

I know what you mean. I was only drinking strained chicken noodle soup for a couple of days, but I was already getting tired of it! So when I tried the BN puree, I was in heaven. lol. I get tired of eating the same things. My husband can have leftovers for 3-4 days; not me--after one leftover, I am done. So it will be interesting for me to vary my diet with the limitations.

I must have overdone it today with all the cooking. I took a 2 hour nap! lol

Thank you for your positive attitude; it helps me a lot.

Take care.

Hey, everyone. Thursday of week 2. Feeling GREAT! So much better than earlier last week. Getting the liquid diet to satisfy me (pureed soups are SO good). Dropped 10 pounds.

Saw my MD today, can lift more weight, and back to work on Monday!

Week 2 almost over, then on to week 3 and adding soft foods to my diet. Any suggestions?

Still, no reflux!

WOOHOO!!! On to week 3!!!

Janice

I know how you feel. I felt the same way. it was so awesome.. the thought of eating real food.. even though it is soft.. I started on baked and broiled fish and mashed potatoes and mild flavor gravy; well cooked veggies(I always boiled them with chicken broth) over cooked pasta.. i started with Alfredo sauce rather than spaghetti sauce is not as spicy (tried spaghetti sauce first, not good at first) my first meat was a suggestion of another member here, chicken vienna sausages. they have lots of flavor and very soft meat..

I hope these suggestions help you a bit.. stay with us and let us know how you are doing.. as always

Sandi:

Thanks for the suggestions! I will definitely give these a try. I was even thinking of using my leftover purees to put on pasta for some flavor. I can't believe Vienna sausages! I used to eat those as a kid! ha ha. Full circle.

Feels good to be ending week 2. Almost feels like a graduation!

Take care.

You will find a smoother road now.. you may still have issues but they will be fewer and you will probably be able to say "I should have known better".

Be prepared for some trips to the bathroom.. if you get my drift.. once you start soft food.. after 2 weeks on liquids well your system may rebel a bit.. so don't get upset if it happens.. it is pretty normal.. just take a step back and move forward again.. ..

Yesterday I tried a Pasta Roni, but I think it was just a bit too rich for me. Did not sit well. Today, I cooked egg noodles, put a bit of squash puree on them for lunch. Pretty bland. Will see if it sits well in my stomach.

I did have a poached egg this morning which I tolerated well. (miss the toast!)

Not sure about mac-n-cheese. May be a little too heavy. I guess I will have to take it slow and easy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Still doing well and no reflux!

I had a bit of a problem with anything that had milk involved the first few weeks.. but then it settled down.. your pasta roni..??
I did boiled eggs and it went well, scrambled didn't like me.. who knows why?

I miss toast and bread of all kinds.. for some reason I cannot eat them.. they just hang up and stay there... eeewwwww.. not pleasant.. I still try every 2-3 weeks..

try some alfredo sauce on pasta.. it isn't as acidic as spaghetti sauce.. I added mushrooms after about 4-5 weeks..

Let's see.. cottage cheese, boiled veggies (I cooked yellow squash and zucchini w/sweet onion chopped well in chicken broth) boil until well done. noodle soup chicken or beef (meat must be very well done.. mushy almost).. Try a variety of things.. just add 1 or 2 things at a time and that way if something doesn't set well you can eliminate it for a couple weeks.

I hope this helps some.. will try to get back with some other stuff as soon as I remember them..

Keep up the great attitude.. this is so necessary for a good recovery...

Hey, everyone. Sorry I haven't been posting. Had to go visit my Mom who was ill. She passed away on the 13th, and we buried her on the 19th. Just got home the 20th.

My TIF so far is doing well. Had to buy food for myself while visiting my family, but did well. Bought Knorr envelope sauces and made pasta, which I tolerated well.

Today I had rice with a little beef broth in it; did well. Week 5 is almost over. Time is flying by!

Kristi, hope you are doing better. Haven't had a chance to read all of the posts yet. Still surreal to me about my mother.
