Well I would go and ask for Helicobacter test, it was a blood test then went to breath test, then blood test, then stool sample - I think they're moving back to blood tests again now. But it's simple to get checked out for that. I wouldn't put off having a gastroscopy, simply because it's your ticket to a proper diagnosis and more effective treatment. As for bad news results, well they're always possible but wouldn't you rather know sooner to get optimal treatment if it was? And odds are your gastroscopy would just put you in the GERD club with the rest of us. It's a bit of a rock and a hard place but the only way out is to get the tests behind you. I was very frightened to have a gastroscopy after having one with failed sedation (which is very unusual) - but after a 3 year gap in symptoms no doctor would do anything without a fresh scope. So I went private and had it under GA in order to break the deadlock - the relief of not having anything serious was nothing to the relief of having the test behind me!!
I would go and talk to your PCP again about the best way forward. There are other folk on the forum with anxiety issues and an anxiety forum I think - so there should be more support for you to tap into on that front too.
Hope that helps . . .
