Has anyone had a stomach ulcer and if so can you discribe in full detail your symptoms? I suspect I have one but I'm not really sure, I know I'm miserable everyday for months now. I have the burning hungar gnawing pain in the pit of my stomach and its also tender on the left side right above belly button. I also get bloated and have gas buildup after eating and sometimes indigestion. But the burning is there early mornings til I eat and then goes away for alittle while then always comes back. 40mg nexium isn't helping at all. But also in the mornings I feel like I need to burp to relieve it from the pit of my stomach but nothing in there to burp up. Does this sound like an ulcer

I had nausea, pain and constant hunger sensation but no signs of ulcers were found - just gastritis and acid reflux. I got a lot of benefit from taking my ppi at night - taking it in the morning didn't help with the night time fast. Fasting (like for a test) is guaranteed to make me really unwell.

Have you been tested for Helicobacter and had a gastroscopy?

Taking DGL on waking helps some of my symptoms. Some people are helped a lot by Carafate too (I'm in the uk and they tend not to prescribe it here).

You need to keep knocking on your PCP's door if your treatment isn't relieving your symptoms.

I?e been taking the nexium at night for awhile now, and no I haven't been checked for h.pylori or a scope done to be honest I'm scared to hear bad news and I'm only 35. And what exactly is DGL? All I know is this wasn't a problem til I started having panic attacks and not eating this went on fron last oct til early june. And now I eat and I have this problem :(

Well I would go and ask for Helicobacter test, it was a blood test then went to breath test, then blood test, then stool sample - I think they're moving back to blood tests again now. But it's simple to get checked out for that. I wouldn't put off having a gastroscopy, simply because it's your ticket to a proper diagnosis and more effective treatment. As for bad news results, well they're always possible but wouldn't you rather know sooner to get optimal treatment if it was? And odds are your gastroscopy would just put you in the GERD club with the rest of us. It's a bit of a rock and a hard place but the only way out is to get the tests behind you. I was very frightened to have a gastroscopy after having one with failed sedation (which is very unusual) - but after a 3 year gap in symptoms no doctor would do anything without a fresh scope. So I went private and had it under GA in order to break the deadlock - the relief of not having anything serious was nothing to the relief of having the test behind me!!

I would go and talk to your PCP again about the best way forward. There are other folk on the forum with anxiety issues and an anxiety forum I think - so there should be more support for you to tap into on that front too.

Hope that helps . . .

I had two stomach ulcers and the beginning of a third one. My main symptom was nausea. Sometimes I had slight pain which was eased by eating something or taking Pepcid AC, 10 mg.

I was scoped and put on Zegerid 40 mg for four months. Tests revealed the ulcers were gone and had been stress ulcers, no h-pylori.

Blessings,
Cme

I know that is thread is quite old, but I thought I would post my stomach ulcer experience, just in case anyone else is experiencing the same symptoms. It started with a gnawing pain in my upper stomach, it would sometimes ease with food, but it was almost always there. Over the course of several months the symptoms got progressively worse. If I didn’t eat every 2-3 hours the pain got almost unbearable. I was having constant panic attacks, at least one per hour. Headache every evening, lower back pain, nausea, tiredness, anxiety, insomnia (would be awoken very early every morning), persistent stomach pain (no matter what I ate), swollen fingers, sore joints, and dark stool. I tried all the over the counter natural products, DGL licorice root, aloe juice, mastic gum, etc., none of those worked for me. My doctor prescribed omeprazole, which I reluctantly took (having read some online horror stories). I noticed minimal improvement over 2 weeks. By 4 weeks the pain was decreasing as were my other symptoms including the anxiety. At 8 weeks, I was still having symptoms, but no where near what it was in the beginning. These symptoms all virtually disappeared with a daily dose over 10 weeks. It took the full 10 weeks though. Your gut is also called your “second brain”, so if you are having any symptoms of anxiety with gnawing stomach pain, you could have an ulcer. Doctors are so quick to prescribe anti-anxiety medication, when that’s not always the root problem. Like I said, ALL of my symptoms disappeared with treatment of the ulcer.
