Hey all,

I want to know when I can start jogging again, and doing yoga? I am almost 6 weeks post op. But amfeeling pretty good and strong. Also golf?

Another question I have, is what happens when you want to get sick, ie you get so nauseas you feel you have to throw up.
What happens, you just don't?

I am also, so thankful that I have not had to vomit for 6 weeks! I have not woken up choking on reflux!I can breathe properly. It's been about 4 times however when I burp that I think I taste the food I've eaten. Then I think I have some sort of symptoms of heart burn, but am not sure. Therefore, I son't think it could be heartburn could it. I mean, you would know! Right?
It's just you come from years of suffering, I guess it's just hard to believe that its not there anymore! So I'm hoping I'm taking slight uncomfortable feelings and misinturpeting it as reflux. If it is, it must be so slight.

Oterwise. I'm doing so much better. Thasnkfull for good Doctors and your guys support and advice!

Ta.

Have a lekker day,
Darryl

I would talk to your surgeon about exercise. I would think light yoga would be ok but I'd hold off on the jogging and golfing for a while longer. Golfing would be a lot of twisting and you're still early in healing.

I've been really nauseous to the point where I thought I was going to get sick but nothing happened. It went away after a few hours. Some people can vomit and some get the heaves, both which I've read are painful. You want to avoid it the best you can. Be sure to keep anti nausea meds with you at all times.

Darryl-
At 6 to 8 weeks you can do pretty much anything you want, but listen to your body because it will let you know if you over do it.
As for nausea....please make sure to get anti nausea meds and keep them with you. If you are one of the majority that cannot vomit, you don't want to deal with dry heaves. Not only are they painful, but can damage your wrap. Just not dealing with the dry heaves is enough for me to keep them with me. I have messed up and dealt with dry heaves a few times and I kick myself in the rear every time. Once I didn't have any choice. I caught the flu and the meds didn't stop it.

Take care,

Hi

I have had what you describe as heartburn, and was also very worried. It didn't last too long and followed (sorry!!) an unannounced burp! I like to.think my surgeon did his best work, and burping is a bonus, which means that I might get those issues time to time. My wife reminded me that unwrapped people without gerd/lpr have heartburn now and again, just because you thought you had it doesnt mean anything is wrong, Mayne the opposite. I dunno!!! If it happens with any frequency maybe take a note and raise it with your surgeon.

I totally share your amazement at a full nights sleep. I was deeply unhappy with my pre op vommitting self, it does not exactly make you feel good about yourself or attractive!!! Isnt it amazing!! I am so pleased for you.

Michelle - I am going to piggy back your advice and avoid jogging - I believe the correct expression is 'period'??!! wink

Shot for that guys,

Ok then, I do feel quite strong and healthy again. But the last thing I want to do is jeopradize my wrap! When is it that you think I can start jogging, playing golf etc? How long does it take before it is properly set, fully healed?

Like I said, I don't want to mess anything up in there.
Does the wrap get stronger or weaker as time goes by? I know this sounds like a silly quesstion, but I really believe my surgeon has made it just tight enough to keep the contents of my stomach in. And just loose enough for me to be able to burp. So, I guess it's just paranoia, mixed with the inability to believe that I could actually be cured from reflux! But, you know, you just worry it's gonna relax soon like the real LES valve did, and then sit with the same problem again. darn I hope that doesn't happen.

Thanks for your time,
Darryl

Darryl-
Did your doctor tell you when you are no longer under a certain lifting amount restriction? Once that time is up you are good to go as long as it isn't causing any pain. The wrap has osmosis after around 2 to 3 weeks. It would take quite a lot to do damage to it and usually it takes something like dry heaves to do that. I have had dry heaves before around the 4 week mark, that puts WAY more stress than jogging, and all was well.
I have been running around the ball diamond with my travel softball team I coach for a couple weeks now with no problems. Even been running bases and sliding into bases without any problems. I am about 8 weeks out from an open nissen redo.
It really comes down to how you are feeling.

Take care,
Bill
