I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that they were the same med, just dexilant has the timed release and is prescription and prevacid is now OTC.

Anyone know anything about this?

Dexilant formerly known as Kapidex, is a medication that is used to treat GERD and other stomach conditions. Dexilant belongs to a group of medications called proton pump inhibitors that work by disabling the acid producing pumps in the stomach which lessens the amount of acid that causes the symptoms of GERD. There are 3 over the counter proton pump inhibitors: Prilosec, Prevacid, and Zegerid. These products all work in the same way as Dexilant, but it is important that you discuss this with your physician before taking the over the counter product. He or she should know that you are not taking the Dexilant so that they can monitor your condition appropriately and effectively.

So no they are not the same drug but in the same family.  Dexilant you need a physician's RX to buy.

You can eat right away when taking Dexilant. With all the others it's recommended to wait 30 mins.

Take care,
