Hi guys,

I'm new and trying to figure out which forum I truly fit in...looks like most of them!

Just wanted to let you all know that I've had acid reflux for about 15 years now. I've been on Prilosed for 12 of those years. About a year ago I became very, very ill. Major fatigue, nausea, diahrrea, etc.

After almost a year I'm doing much better, but let me tell you what I went through...

Started of with blood tests for everything...colonoscopy, endoscopy,.....Doctor after Doctor! The only thing that came back bad was my IgE blood count. So, I I took wheat out of my diet. That's wasn't enough, next came, milk products, then any artifial color, flavor, additive, fruits. and on.

I wasn't getting anywhere with the Medical Dr's., so I finally went to a Naturopathic Dr. , whom performed a procedure called an "Electrodermal Screening" on me and tested my saliva for different things.

Well, my saliva contained almost no acid!....I believe from being on the antacids for so long, my so called "proton pumps" were basically shut off, and my digestive system just plain out quit working! I've since gone off the medicine cold turkey...If I just have to have something for it I drink a small amount of Apple Cider Vinegar and keep OTC's around. I will definately be taking the 'Spring Water" advise!

I also have a Hiatel Hernia, so it makes it a little more difficult...like now I can't lift anything or bend over without getting acid reflux! Does anybody have any advice on this one? And remember, I can only have natural products with no artifial flavor, color, grain, fruit...ect. (I'm not quite understanding why I do ok on the APPLE cider vinegar, when I don't do ok with apple!)

Thanks for listening....hope to learn from everyone!

Yes, Shellchap, it's a good idea to try the spring water. I've done really well on this. Gave up the antacids because I also read they do more harm than good. Suffered really bad heartburn for about 2 weeks but kept on with just the spring water. I've had good results and for a few days no heartburn at all. Late yesterday and today, I've had a little burning in my throat and now I'm trying to trace back what I've had. I think I overate yesterday because I felt so good, so today I've been laying back a little. We also have eliminated wheat as that gives my daughter and I real problems. Sure is the pitts not being able to bend over much but what can you do.  It's too bad the apples bother you. I eat a lot of apples and they don't bother me. I also always have olive oil and cider vinegar mix on my salads so I think that helps my stomach. When you take the vinegar to help your stomach, do you mix it into anything or just as it is?

adjca,

No, I don't mix the Apple Cider vinegar with anything...just take a small mouthfull, hold it in my mouth for a few second...which gets the acid moving in your saliva, then swallow. It feels like it's giving you heartburn on the way down, but really does work. Usually with just a few minutes! If you're thinking about it, you may want to look it up, as there are many more benefits to using it!

Good luck!

Hi Shelley

Glad to hear you are trying the natural route.  I take ACV first thing in the morning mixed with warm water.  A nutritionist advised me to take a little drop before each meal to aid digestion.  I am also taking juiced ginger each day ( I mix it with olive and cod liver oils ) which has relieved my burning throat.  Juiced gingeroot is an old remedy for hiatal hernia.  I have also started to cleanse my colon and trying to stick to a proper diet which has not been easy especially when I am starting to get better and feel 'cured'.

I also was made worse from taking antacids continually and am so glad that I am now taking control.

Good luck to you. :-)

What are you using to cleanse the colon, Cammay? And what made you decide to do it? I tried the ACV yesterday, Shelley, and it was'nt too bad at all. I am doing okay with the burning throat at the moment which I attribute to using only spring water.Tried the gingerroot but I think I'll pass on that one again. Thought all the fires of you know what were after me when I tried that :-) Had an eggnog this morning for I heard where raw egg is good for you but I'm a little uneasy because of all the ecoli stories you hear. We'll see.

Cammay,

I've tried ginger tea and I think that is just awful! Do you buy the ginger already juiced? How foes that work? Usually if I can get something down quickly I'm ok, but to sit and sip on Ginger tea, I just can't do.

Please, let me know...I'll try anything as long as it's natural.

Thanks so much!

Shelley

adjca  - I am using oxypwder for the cleansing and it's working well with me.  Doesn't suit everyone.  I felt that I was needing a 'good clean out' and it seems to be the first thing recommended when trying out natural remedies.  Also apart from the acid and hernia I have IBS and other health issues which benefit from a colon cleanse.

Shelley - I have a juicer and prepare it each morning.  A teaspoonful is all that is needed and you can mix it with anything you like which would reduce the strength of taste.  I sometimes mix it with veggie juices and lately been adding it to olive oil and cod liver oil, drinking it quickly followed by lemonade. I never used to be able to tolerate ginger tea either.

Regards

I couldn't do the juiced ginger but I do often have 1/2 tsp of powdered ginger in a cup of boiling water. I used to have a little honey in it but now I just have it like it is. I think these things take some getting used to. I've never heard of Oxypowder for a cleanse. Seems like I heard of something like that for cleaning around the house though. Hope it's not the same thing :-) I've been using whole flax seed sprinkled on most things I eat for the last month and it has really helped my bowel movements. I have been constipated for the whole of my 60 years I'm sure. Even had a hemorroidectomy. Ouch!! I'll try just about anything to not be constipated.
