2 years ago out of the blue I was hit with major chest pain. after tons of heart test, cat scans.etc..all was normal
- I have endo done and had esophagitis and a gapping LES.  after a lot of ups and down trying different medications i would go a week or two feeling fine then a week or two with bad sourness in my chest. I have been getting worse over the past few weeks.
I started haveing very bad burning feeling in my stomach, chest and throat and it is non stop and been going on for 6 days straight. I am takeing PPI but it doesnt seem to help at all if not makes it worse. I have tried eating differnt things but overall eat clean so i cant figure out any foods causeing it.
has anyone had very bad burning in stomach area along with chest and throat? almost like you have a sunburn.
do PPI'S sometimes make you feel worse and actually cause more reflux?
anyone had similar feelings? If so what helped?
I dont know what else to do and neither does the Dr. seem what to do. I just cant take all this pain and burning. I am very discouraged and frustrated.
thanks for any thoughts.

Whether or not you have GERD remains to be diagnosed, but, yes, your symptoms are similar to everyone who suffers from this condition.
It's possible that PPIs have no effect on your acid -- some folks have this problem.  Have your doctor prescribe for you the different formulations of this medication.  The different molecules sometimes work better for some than others.  It may just be a matter of finding the right one.
Another problem GERD sufferers have is finding the right doctor who understands all the symptoms and treatments.  Don't be afraid to find another doctor if the one you're seeing now doesn't seem to be helping.  If you review some of the active threads on this messageboard, you'll learn a lot about tests that could be helpful, diet and behavior modification, etc.  GERD requires active, daily management to control symptoms -- there's no way around it.
Best wishes.

Hi there I know this prob will not make it better but I am new on here as well and for the last 3 weeks I have had the chest pain and burning throat so I do feel like you do and it's very scary at times.
It does sound like what I have so you not on your own.

My stomach makes noises all the time and hurts some times I think it's caused by the acid but the only time it was that bad was when I had eaten peanuts it was bad for 2 days I'm not sure why that happend.

I hope you feel better soon

Hey CWB,

Yes, that feeling is very common. I've had it myself from time to time. I echo what Bruce has already told you and want to remind you to be an advocate for yourself in the doctor's office. I to this day worry about being a pain in the doctor's, ahem, side, but it helps me to remember that they are there to help and probably would NOT take "Oh you'll have to live with this" as an answer :)

Also, have you made any lifestyle changes? Such as avoiding food triggers, raising the head of your bed, etc? I find that making the suggested adjustments helped my symptoms quite a bit.

Hey Rocker,
Nuts don't bother me personally but I believe they're prohibited by the Koufman low acid diet because of their high fat content (no guarantees on this one). In a case like yours, a food diary sounds like an excellent idea since it sounds like you're still finding new triggers. A food diary is also a great way to show your doctor proof that you're active in trying to help yourself and also shows what steps you've already taken to do so :)

I hope you're both feeling well,
