Hey all,

I just got back from the doctor. He says that Barium Swallow is no longer performed here in Finland as they think gastroscopy is the best way to determine if the LES is working properly.

For now, he has switched me to Somac (Pantoprazole) 40mg/day to see how it works for me. I don't know when I will make the change but WOW it is so much cheaper than the Nexium! 3€ versus 88€!

He has scheduled me for a stomach ultrasound and is going to send an email to the GI who did my gastroscopy to ask for advice about how to proceed. I made it clear for the first time that I am not opposed at all to having the Nissen (I had terrible heartburn on Friday night for no particular reason).

Hopefully I'll be getting some answers soon. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this as I feel okay about the new path but also a little unsure.

Kitt, is there any update?

Love to all!
Ashley

Annoucing the birth of my grand-niece -Arianna! :)
I'm hoping to see her sometime next week if things don't change.
My father's going to have hernia surgery soon. We'll find out when on Thursday when he sees the doctor.
My favorite cousin is being buried tomorrow after a 2 year battle with cancer. She had colon cancer, lung cancer, and developed brain cancer during the last month. She was just a year younger than me. She leaves behind a husband and three children. Think of them for me will you?

Hi Joy,
That's definitely a good news-bad news post.  Congratulations on your new baby niece!  How exciting.  Best wishes to your father, and here's hoping his surgery goes well.

Of course I'll be saying prayers for your cousin and her family.  Do they live nearby?

Hi Ashley,
Interesting...no barium swallows.  I have to agree.  I don't think they're all that accurate, and do miss plenty.  Good luck with your tests!   Glad to hear you've been switched to a more reasonably priced PPI!

Hi everyone,

I came across this whilst sorting through some papers at home, and I thought it was just so appropriate for us all here!

Dear Friends,

Last days have been pretty busy.  Our friends have been moved from Rochester to our own Transional Care here at our hospital  They expect a 1-2 month stay.  Betty has 2 fracture vertibrae of her neck  and fractured sternum in upper chest.  Jim has 12 fractured ribs on the Left and 2 on the right.  They are in separate rooms here as they don't do the coed roommates but at least they are in town and can be with their loved ones.

Would you believe the hospital just started building a new addition onto the nursing home - 7 new rooms dedicated to transional care with it's own dining area and lounge.  Right now Trans Care is mixed in with regular long term nursing home patients.

I have been reading and wondering where in the world is Bill.  Anyone heard from him.  I do hope he is ok.

I will be back here first thing in the morning.  My hubby has his stess test scheduled for 9:00AM in the morning so he is home from up north but headed back up on Friday.  Maybe he has Bill with him.

Love to all,

Hi Kitt,
I'm glad Betty and Jim are close to family now...that will be better for everyone!  We have a close friend who fell off a roof onto a paved driveway, and has faced a long recovery.  He was in intensive care for about two weeks, and in the hospital over a month.  He came home to a hospital bed, OT, PT, and lots of continued healing.  Want to know how crazy he is?  He is already hunting.  He has someone drive him, then he gets up into his tree stand and stays there all day waiting for a deer.  Seriously?  Remind you of anyone? turn

Have a wonderful day.  Our weather has been more like springtime than winter.  I just hope we get snow for Christmas!

I promised to be back this morning..........and here I am.  Hubby having Stress Echo so my mind is preoccupied.  I am into the the "What ifs?'  dah...........like he took my car so what if he fails the test and they want him uptown right away.  I may have to hitchhike to town.  Stupid thinking and I have to laugh at myself.  Our daughter lives 5 minutes away and so that "what if?" thought bit the dust. Also I have a bicycle in the garage shocked .

I will restart this thread today and then I will post to each of you in the new thread.

Love and hugs,

Kitt

Hi Kitt,
It sounds as if your "what if" has run its course, and you've problem solved its demise!  Yay!  Think positive...good test results and no worries.  I'll be thinking of you today.  Let us know when you find out the results.

I agree...this thread is pretty lengthy!
Happy Day,
Denise

Joy,

"Each time a child is born... the world lights up with new possibilities." Welcome Arianna !

I am sorry to read of the death of you cousin, Joy, and I know you will miss her and grieve for her.  Sending you many loving prayers.

Denise,  Made it through the stress test and he drove my car back home  cool .  I am really expecting the results to be good as he was so sick with pneumonia that I suspect his heart was acting up thus the results of the last Echo.

Aeshleyrose,  I am glad to hear you saw your Dr. and between the two of you a plan is being developed.  The cost difference is huge between the 2 medicaitons.

Bill,  Come out an play with us !  If you not feeling well and you need to vent this is the place to do it.  You know we are here to support you always.

To Everyone - I think it is time to check in here and let us know how you are doing.  (((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))))))

Mock T,

Have you tried melatonin for your tinnitus - see the link to a study above.

Worth a go?

You're welcome - might be worth taking it until it's reached maximum benefit and then seeing how you can trade off side effects by tapering the dose or taking short breaks from it. Hope it kicks in in time for Christmas!

The study looked very favourable I thought.

Mock Turtle,

I am sorry for the confusion but it was Joy's cousin that died,  I was just copying the lastest old threads into this new one.  She is also the one with the new baby in the family.  :-)

I hope the melatonin works for you and please do keep us posted.

Kindly,

Kitt
