So i've been recently diagnosed with GERD back in April of this year, althought i've been putting up with it since late 2007.
At first i altered my diet, been taking Prilosec regularly and even some aloe-drinks.
it would never completely subside but it was tolerable.
well lately this last week has been hell. the pain will just not subside.
I go to sleep with it (if i can sleep) and wake up with it.
the prilosec does nothing anymore, doesn't matter what i eat anymore (if anything).
I just can't deal with this anymore and I'm looking to surgery.
I've read about several different types, i would like to know which is the most reputable and long lasting.
Thanks for your time all.

Welcome to Healing Well!

Have you raised the head of your bed? This helps to use gravity to keep the acid where it belongs. A wedge tends to put more pressure on the stomach may make things worse. Raise it somewhere between 6 to 10 inches if possible. Also, try not eating anything 3 to 4 hours before bedtime.

As for surgeries, I believe the Nissen is probably the most popular. There are several other options that are out now. The Lynx and TIF are the ones I see talked about the most. I have gone with the nissen as it was the best option for me. You can do a site search for these and find lots of talk about these on here.

Stick with us and feel free to ask us as many questions as you like. We are here to support you through this.

Take care,

thanks i appreciate the reply.

yes i've raised the bed several months ago, altered my diet and eat nothing before bedtime but for some reason lately, nothing is working.

I'll do some research and i will call the clinic on monday to see what the next step is.
