Hi everyone, I had my surgery 2 days ago. I have had lots of pain in my throat and taking pain medication. Lots of spasm in my throat and chest that make their way down to my stomach. I have had nausea, but taking anti- nausea medication and although it helps to keep food down the side effect from Zofron is blurry vision. The doctor told me that due to years of LPR my esophagus was so tight he struggled and had to force the scope down my throat which caused more swelling. I also had 3 polyps removed around the upper sphincter. I have had little to eat the past 2 days mostly broth and freezer pops. I think I may try an ensure drink today. I am very tired and feel like I have been run over by a truck, but I took a week off work to get back on my feet.

I will keep you informed of my progress.

Update.... 5 days after surgery. I have a little pain in my throat that feels like a lump, and only mild spasms in my chest. I ran the vacuum today and was up moving around a little more. I am no longer taking Tylenol and slept all night without waking up. I can eat soft mushy foods and about a cup at one sitting. I am 5 ft. 2in. and started at 128lbs, I have lost 7lbs in 5 days and what a way to loose weight. I am definitely feeling better and should be ready to go back to work in 3 more days.

I will keep everyone informed of my progress.

Welcome to Healing Well.

Great to hear things are going so well. Did you have the Tif type surgery?

Take care,

I know you had the Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication and reading how well you are feeling is simply wonderful.  Back to work in 3 more days is amazing but please do take it easy and know that even thow you feel so much better you have had surgery and your body needs to heal.
Keep us posted and again congratulations on your successful surgery.

I know it has been months, but how have you healed? Are you lpr symptoms gone? I am desperate for help and saw on another post you said you saw a surgeon in Lorton, VA. This is actually close to where I live, and no doctors I have seen so far have had any clue how to treat LPR. If you could give me some more info or update I would appreciate it SO much!

I had the TIF surgery done - today is two weeks.  I struggle with the fact that it's almost as if my doctor's office lied to me because I straight up asked them "would I be able to resume normal activities after the surgery because I have 4 pets that I need to feed and water and brush and medicate, etc etc.  I was told I'd "be fine and could resume normal activities right away.!!"  I couldn't believe how bad it hurt the night of and next few days.  My throat was unbelievably sore ... my chest hurt. ... my shoulder hurt so bad I needed pain med in my IV and for several days afterwards.  My throat felt better within about 5 days I'd say but I had those awful chest pains (where the staples were inserted I guess) for about 7 or 8 days accompanied by awful internal burping which I read would undo the surgery so I worried alot.  I left a message on Fri for the nurse to ask her what I could take to help the burping/ gas and was told Mylanta would help.  It doesn't help much but maybe a little.  Today I get to add soft foods to the liquid diet so I'm a little happier.  I too lost 10 lbs so far which I would love to lose 10 more!  I'm 5'4 and weighed about 160 .. am down to 150 2 weeks out.  I'm going to try hard to keep it off and maybe start exercising to lost more.  I think when/if I gain any back I'll go back on the liquid diet for a few days - it wasn't so bad actually.    But now the good news I don't know if it's the mental fact of being able to add more food and the fact that I've lost weight and feel so happy about that but I am actually feeling better - not so much gas or pain in my chest at all that I've noticed today so hopefully the worst is behind me.  The GERD before the surgery had taken over my life - I had to sleep sitting up until about 3 a.m., then it was usually safe to lay down without getting woke up choking with burning acid coming up in my mouth.  It felt like acid coming out my nose, throat and even my eyes when it would happen and it burned so bad I wanted to die!  I've had reflux for about 10 years but the past year it had gotten so much worse and medicine didn't help 100%.  One episode of waking up with that is too much as far as I'm concerned!!
So if today is any indication I think I'm going to be happy I got it even though it was way worse than I was prepared for.  Maybe the doctor thinks if we know everything about after the surgery we might not get it so they don't tell us.  It wasn't until I was in the hospital that he gave me the brochure on afterwards!!  Too late to back out then!  So I'm still sleeping propped up because I'm afraid to lay down but I think I would be ok.  I just don't want to take any chances on getting reflux until after I'm healed more so I'm not chancing the laying down part for awhile yet.  He wants me to keep taking reflux medicine until my 3rd week when I go back to see him.  That's next Tuesday.  I dont know if I'm going to thank him or be upset with him for not telling me the extent of the pain involved in recovery but by next week I should be feeling pretty good so probably won't ream him too bad.    So all you who've just had the surgery hang in there - it will get better!  yeah
