Hi everyone. Got home from hospital Wed from nissen fundoplication with hernia repair on Monday. Actually am doing so much better than I had been prepared for. Some pain at incision points and tiring very easily but only a few gas pains now and then and not severe at all. Still on clear liquids till I see Dr onWed which is getting pretty boring. Soup, jello, juice and water. I am really ready to try something a little more substantial like pudding or real soup. Hubby wants me to wait a few more days since I am doing so well so far. My fear now is that I am going to rush things and I really don't want to do that but this sitting around doing nothing is not me unless I feel sick which I don't. I think I might have been better off this firt week at least if my surgeon hadn't done such a good job. Even in hospital the nurses were surprised at progress I made the first day or so! Very glad it's over with no chest pains, heartburn or reflux. I have been able to burp since the first evening which I feared I was not going to be ble to do at all. Guess I should be thankful in the long run. Hope all the other newbies here have the same good luck!!!

Penny-

Welcome to the Wrapped club! Great to hear you are doing so well. I agree the diet is boring, but a necessary evil to a good recovery.

Take care,
Bill

Congratulations, Penny!

So glad it went well! My experience was similar to yours. I wasn't expecting to feel so well. I felt like I could eat anything. They did give me cream of wheat in the hospital and my surgeon released me with instructions to eat soft food. I was expecting orders for liquids so I was pleasantly surprised and had no problems with food.

I hope your recovery continues this smoothly. It helped me to get out of the house so I didn't feel like an invalid. Even if it's a drive in the car or a walk in the park.

Starry

I love to hear when some one is positive the first few days. I, of course, was not one of them. Anyway, about chest pains. I am almost 4 weeks post op. and I have been getting chest pains that scare me. I feel like I am having a heart attack. I want to think it is gas so I chew 2 gasx tabs and lay down. It takes a good half hour to feel better and only a little burp expelled. Any comments?

My Dr does want me to stay on clear liquids until monday and then full liquids for another week after that. I did get out for a little bit this afternoon. Hubby was going to grocery store and I tagged along. Picked out some fresh fruit to start using my juicer that my daughter got me for Christmas. A little bit of sharp pains in my right shoulder which seems odd. Sitting with heating pad now.

The shoulder pain is normal. Usually from the vegus nerve being irritated. It will go away with time.

Take care,

Bill,

I keep forgetting...3 nissens...you're a champ! Those going in the first time are nervous like crazy. I think it will better when it is over. I just wish I could forward this all up. I'm most likely going to get it in February. Let's hope it knocks the symptoms out and recovery is ok. I don't really get regurgitation but more like vapor burning feeling

Max-

Yeah, 3 of them. If it wouldn't have been for a torn esophagus I would still be on #2! I remember being very nervous before my first one, very anxious too.

Take care,
Bill

Penny, I was enjoying very watery cheese grits during my 2nd week. I had pudding after day 5.
