Hi, Jason 25 years old.
For about 5 months now, my left Salavia Gland has been swollen.  The
swelling varies from day to day, with no pattern that I can tell.
I have had every blood test, Catscan, MRI, x-ray, nothing has come up
except,  Acid Reflux.  My doctor prescribed prevacid,  I have taken it for
70 days, and no change.  The severity seems to have a mind of its own.
All tests have come up negative except the acid reflux.  I  have always belched
my whole life, since the prevacid, it seems to have slown down.  I changed
my eating habits, to no pop, spicy food, tomato sauce, and anything fried.
I eat super healthy, excercise all the time, I even stopped drinking alcohol for 4 weeks.
no change.  This all started 2 weeks before  I bought a house, and was fixing it up.
The back of throat has post nasal drip lines, but there is no congestion in my nasal cavities.
I do sleep with my mouth open sometimes, but have gotten a humidifer. You name It I  have
tried it!  I feel healthy just have throat problems.  If any body has anwsers, please let me know.
I have had enough of this crap!   Thanks!!

Have you seen an ENT? Due to you saying you have post nasal drip and that you are an occasional mouth breather it would sound like it maybe be allergies. My son has those symptoms occasionally and has had really bad allergies his whole life. Did the doctor ever mention this being the possibility?

Are you sure it's a salivary gland? Could it be clogged or have a stone? I have intermittant swollen salivary glands, and they come and go.
I used to have horrible sore throats.......but just on the sides in the back. I finally had sinus surgery to enlarge the "windows" to let the sinuses drain better, and the sore throats cleared up. I also think some of us are very sensitive in our throats. Have you ever tried sinus spray? I make my own, to avoid the preservatives. I boil water, and to a cup of water, I add 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp soda bicarb, and put it in a nasal spray bottle. It really seems to keep my sinuses in line.
I have heard that people with bad reflux can have sore throats and hoarseness and wheezing, from the acid coming up into their throats. Have you tried raising the head of your bed 6"? Do you keep water at your bedside, to keep your throat moistened during the night, when you wake up? I hope you feel better soon.

That is so weird! I've been complaining to my doctors' about having swollen nymph nodes for quite awhile now. I have a hiatel hernia, GERD, and massive food allergies! But, now that I've taken most food and additives out of my diet, I still get the swollen feeling in my throat...sometimes like a slight choking feeling....And a very weird thing about when it happens is that it's most severe when I'm upset or stressed over something.

I have this feeling all week while at work (Accounting for an automotive parts plant) and on the weekends when I'm off, it seems to go away. this tells me that it has alot to do with my stress, and since you just started your housing project, I wonder if the same this is happening to you.

Currently I'm seeing a Hemotologist and next will go to an Immunologist to try to figure out how off my immune system is and get it back in balance.

I'm assuming that with a few very stressful life changing situations I went through at the time I got really sick has caused my body to flip. I've had my gull bladder out and have delayed gastric emptying along with my other problems, so don't absorb nutrients well and just get sicker.

Maybe you should consider some down time, see if it helps to relax for a couple of days! Or maybe I'm looking at it completely wrong and maybe this is something that happens when you have GERD and it just started with me because I went off my prilosec.

I'm rambling.....

Does anybody have a clue what is going on with this swelling thing??????

I had exactely the same problem with my throat and it definitley is linked to acid reflux and stress... when on holiday I never had it.... The doctor can give you something to relax and I have heard that it works but have not tried it myself but I will tell you I AM CURED FROM ACID REFLUX Thought I had it for life but I am a testimony to being cured...... yipeee

Good luck to you too

How were you cured of acid reflux???? And I do take Zanax for anxiety, and unbelievably if I take it when I'm having the problems it does help alot....the only problem is that I try my hardest not to take it at work because it makes me tired! I do break it up so that I can take smaller amounts, but when I take less it seems to not work!

Anybody have any ideas! I have worked really hard at controlling my stress....breathing techniques, taking breaks, talking myself down in my head, name it.

I have had this problem for 2 years..
off n on gland tightening, off n on throat pain, and or throbbing, like one above said, they have a mind of their own and are different day to day. sometimes i get flemmy and clear my throat non stop after a meal.. or hoarseness.
sometimes the pain moves close to the ears and lots of discomfort when turning head or tucking chin to chest.
i have acid reflux, i take protonix. but no help in the gland pain area.
I am seeing an ENT, he wants a diary of my day to day activity and stress.
No answers yet.

This is incredible to read.  I have had these same symptoms for almost 2 years now.  My salavia glands are inflammed, my throat gets red and feels tight; my gums even burn.  It has no specific pattern; it comes and goes.  I was really stressed over a year ago and I was very depressed for sometime.  I also had an allergy screening and I was told I am allergic to almost everything. This is some debilitating at times.  It's always seems to make it's presence known regardless.  What could this be?  I would like for someone to keep in touch with me at this site to try and exchange our symptoms and see if we can narrow this down.  Any suggestions on a herbal treatment?  I am tired of drugs plus they don't do anything for me anymore?
