To be suffering with heartburn after 50 hours ??

I had a bad flare up on friday evening and its 2am monday morning and ive still got it :-(.

Ended up in hospital again on friday night but the doctors refused me morphine which normally sorts the pains out immediately.

Had enough now - have only slept 5 hours since friday :-(

I am not sure if it's "normal", but when I did suffer from heartburn it could last for several days on end at times.

Take care,

Hi Matt --

You don't offer any other details, or indications that you have been diagnosed with GERD...so I won't assume anything.

If someone were to have a feeling of heartburn that long, and they were diagnosed with GERD, I would say that there is an erosion of some sort...perhaps just through the mucous lining of the esophagus...that's causing a chronic pain. Just like a scrape on your skin that you keep putting salt on.

So...the doctors did nothing for you?

Hey Matt -

I have had heartburn for 12 hours at times and my endoscopy showed perfectly normal and pink anatomy - no sores or anything. I am also baffled about how and why this can happen - I can also have heartburn starting 18 hours after I've eaten something bad. It doesn't make sense to me.

I also want to know the answer to Bruce's question - they didn't even give you a pink lady (pepto bismol mixed with lidocaine) or anything to help you??

Take care
Ashley

Hi there,

Apologies for delays in coming back to you all.

Well they put a drip in my arm with paracetomal, this didnt touch it, then given tramadol again didnt touch me, then gave me gaviscon which was a waste of time.

Sunday was still suffering so started taking cocodamol which has now upset my stomach.

Hardly eaten or drunk anything since friday, still have the pain in one spot below my breastbone, bowels all in pieces and my tummy area just feels very warm :-(

I suffer with gerd and am waiting for a gallbladder op.

Docs for me in the morning

paracetomal = reducing fever
tramadol = synthetic opioid for pain relief
cocodamol = codeine + paracetomal

What the heck is going on? Are there other symptoms you haven't mentioned? Have you even tried PPIs? I'm hesitant to offer you anything other than just support. Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow...
