Hello have posted on here before. My doctor was not in today, but will be in tomorrow. I wanted to ask him details about my endoscopy yesterday since I was really out of it (actually dont remember almost anything of the entire procedure). I have posted on here before. I have GERD and Dr. wanted to get in and see what was going on inside since my acid reflux has been out of controll. I have been taking Dexilant 60 mg now for 11 days. My heartburn isnt as bad but I still have heartburn It just doesnt feel like a blow torch anymore. My cousin went with me and the Dr. said that everything went normal. I was looking at the pictures they gave me and didnt notice any redness etc. He also wanted to order a test to see if my stomach is dumping normal. Does this mean that I dont have GERD? I am so confused. I am now starting to feel my throat tighten up at times and will last for minutes if not an hour. I still get hearburn I feel like I am going nuts!

Could be LPR or silent reflux.

If you were on treatment at the time of the scope that might have healed things and given the appearance of normal - I.e. The treatment was working?

My first scope was normal - my second 3 years later wasn't, and yet my symptoms were identical both times. Sometimes the findings just don't match the symptoms, and they call it "functiional".

Did you get tested for Helicobacter too?

that is not abnormal...something like 42% of people that get endoscopies for gerd symptoms have normal endoscopies. Look up NERD (non erosive reflux disease) in google and you can learn more about it, and theories on your situation.

You can have a normal endoscope, but still have reflux.
The stomach emptying test is very easy. You eat radioactive food and stand infront of a special camera that reads how the radioactivity moves through your GI tract. It takes about two hours to do the test. Every 10-15 mins you stand infront of the camera.

Have you had the motility test or pH test?

Dr. took a biopsy when he was doing the endoscopy to test for barretts and h. pylori. I had been taking the Dexilant now for about 10 days yesterday. I dont know if that would be enough time to make my endoscopy look normal. He said he wanted to do the emptying test next. I just wish I was a little more consious to have asked questions after. I would of thought he wanted to do the ph test next. I told him I was still having heartburn before I was sedated but he said that after taking the meds for a couple of weeks my symptoms would subside. Thats about all I remember telling him before I went under. My symptoms arent as bad as they were before I took the Dexilant. I dont understand. If Prevacid, Nexium have worked for me in the past and then stopped I would know if the med was making my reflux go away. I wake up every morning with a really sore throat still. When the other meds worked for me I had absolutely no symptoms. And to top it all off the Dr. wants to see me in three months! I cant live like this I took this semester off to resolve this issue.
