This is becoming a nightmare. I'm still waiting for a phone call from the GI physician to set up my manometry test. I've already had the upper gi. I've called their office twice and have not had a single call returned. Called my Physicians nurse and she has called twice and they have told her that they have received the request but have not scheduled it yet. It's bee almost 2 weeks. Last night was one of the worst in a while, sever reflux burn, very bad pain in lower abdomen and around to the lower back. Should have gone to the ER but thought i'd wait till the next day and check with my Dr. Unfortunately he wasn't available. Waiting on his nurse to call me back with instructions on what to do. Wondering if i should consider changing physicians.Any suggestions?

Sorry you're having a tough time David.

Speaking for myself, I'd find another physician. If my doctor isn't available, there is always one available to handle his calls.

Two weeks is a bit much to wait to just to be scheduled.

Also, I'd go to the emergency room.

I hope you'll soon have some relief.

I'm concerned as to what kind of care i would get in the ER for GERD. Right now all I've been doing is going back n forth to the bathroom, amazing how much pain food coming up can cause. Not sure how concerned i should be when i'm throwing up a little blood with it. Not much but very noticeable. MAN I HATE THIS.

if i were you....(im not a medical professional so please discuss this with your doctor)

i would do 3 things as soon as possible

1 ablate the dysplasia ( i believe mayo clinic and others do radio frequency ablation to get rid of barretts)

i have never read a study..and i have looked, that indicates any procedure TIF, nissen F, linx etc... any procedure.... reverses barrets metaplasia nor dysplasia...maybe im wrong, i would love to be shown im wrong

it seems to me that before tif, NF, or linx one would want to eliminate barretts (look up barretts esophagus at wikipedia , excellent article) pay special attention to the part about dysplasia

2 i would immediately begin eating 2 to 4 ounces of broccoli sprouts three or more times a week. Johns Hopkins University and other well respected research institutions have determined that sulforaphane in broccoli sprouts induces apoptosis and reduces angeogenesis in neoplasms...which is a fancy way of saying protection against the growth and proliferation of cancer

3 find a doctor that is responsive...waiting is not a good option

i dont think you should be scared... i think you should act have time to take appropriate action

i do think you should go forward, get your procedures, adjust your diet

and i believe you will be well

remember im not a medical profession so read these articles and discuss with a medical professional

best wishes

Thanks Mock,
My current physician wanted me to have an upper gi done to determine if i had Achalasia so he could determine the type of wrap to perform, which i haven't received the results yet, He also wants me to have the manometry test which is what i have been waiting on. When i first went to him i made it clear that i wanted the surgery, I've been on omeprozale for about 4 months and it's not having the effect it did when i first started taking it. I've been having severe acid reflux the past week which i made clear to his nurse the last time we spoke. I've adjusted my diet about as much as i can, nothing fried, nothing spicy, high in sodium,no alcohol or soda, nothing citric. Basically all i eat is baked chicken, baked fish, rice lots of water, milk, occasional peaches and rice. I've lost almost 60 lbs in the 8 months.Broccoli sprouts i'm not so sure about, last time i ate them i remember getting terrible gas. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
